A leading-edge renewable energy consultancy just outside Birmingham is seeking a Team Lead – Mechanical Design Engineering with a strong background in building services, particularly heating and HVAC systems, to lead and grow their mechanical design function.


In this leadership role, you’ll not only apply your technical expertise to sustainable energy projects across the commercial and residential sectors, but also mentor junior engineers, coordinate cross-functional collaboration, and drive the successful delivery of high-impact mechanical systems from concept through to implementation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design team, overseeing project allocation, technical reviews, and quality control.
  • Design and develop mechanical systems focused on heating, ventilation, and building services, aligning with sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
  • Review and produce high-quality technical drawings and schematics using CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, consultants, and installation teams to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Conduct site visits and provide expert technical guidance during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure all work meets regulatory standards, best practices, and client specifications.
  • Support team development through mentorship, training, and performance feedback.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in mechanical design within the building services or HVAC industry, ideally with leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
  • Comfortable with both strategic oversight and hands-on technical engagement.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach with strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Passion for renewable energy and sustainable engineering practices is highly desirable.
