Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Manager to join the team at Derwent Valley Hospital.

As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing the mechanical engineering element of the Hospital and will be responsible for ensuring statutory compliance for all Mechanical systems on site.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Manager (a hospital environment expertise is highly desired), strong mechanical qualifications, proactive problem-solving skills, and exceptional communication and teamwork abilities.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Management of allocated specialist service contracts to ensure Serco's statutory, mandatory, and contractual obligations are met.
  • Management of the allocated annual planned preventative maintenance schedule for all mechanical engineering services detailing all tasks to be undertaken, ensuring that all statutory, mandatory, contractual obligations are met, and high standards of workmanship are achieved.
  • Implement and comply with procedures as detailed in the companies Quality Assurance & Health & Safety Policies.
  • Prepare and review maintenance procedures for plant and equipment, ensuring high standards and minimising unavailability.
  • Produce annual planned maintenance schedule and task instructions for all mechanical assets and services.
  • Supervise the delivery of Statutory Compliance maintenance task obligations and support the delivery of accurate evidence of compliance
  • Review and validate completed planned and reactive tasks undertaken by assigned resources and contractors and reschedule and procure the required specialist contractor and materials to ensure remedial and compliance actions are completed.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Annual Lifecycle Programme identifying plant/services which may compromise service delivery.
  • Support the preparation of specifications and management of the delivery of Mechanical minor new works and updating of record drawings.
  • Support the preparation of specifications for maintenance and equipment/plant replacement as identified in the annual programme
  • Assist in the development and testing of contingency plans for Mechanical services with Head of Estates.
  • Technical and managerial support in the delivery of capital schemes pre and post design evaluation, on site supervision of elements of capital schemes
  • Deputise for Head of Estates and represents Estates department when required
  • Liaison with Electrical Engineering Manager, and other Services Manager
  • Authorised/Responsible Person MGPS, and Pressure systems, Responsible Person water Systems
  • Participate in Estates on call service including preparing and distribution of a daily critical plant report
  • Provision of monthly performance data and reports to senior management team
  • Coordinate working shift resources to ensure sufficient resources available to deliver planned and reactive tasks
  • Undertake staff annual and periodic performance and feedback reviews and implement training and development plans.
  • Review and authorise working shift timesheets for directly employed and agency staff to ensure correct payment processing.
  • Attend designated service working group meetings and complete assigned actions.
What you will need:
  • Must be mechanically qualified preferably serving time in a hospital environment.
  • Must have held AP duties for Medical Gas and Pressure Systems previously in a hospital environment.
  • Must have held RP duties for Water Systems previously in a hospital environment.
  • Must have demonstrable knowledge of typical mechanical systems found within a hospital environment including sterilizers and washers
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of CAFM systems
  • Knowledge of financial reporting desired
  • Must be able to write technical reports
  • Basic IT skills required
Additional features to the role:
  • This role requires the holder to be available to carry-out on call duties on a rostered basis and they must be able to attend site out of hours, within 45 mins
  • The role may require the holder to visit areas that have patients. Discretion is therefore required at all times and patient privacy and dignity will be at the forefront of everything that they do
  • There may be occasions when the job holder has to visit the mortuary for work reasons and as such they need to be aware of this requirement
