The Role

As an Exercise Clinic Lead Physiotherapist with us, you'll play a pivotal role in being responsible for tailored assessment and exercise prescription for people with cancer. You will be proficient at assessing, planning and delivering exercise interventions for those living with and beyond cancer. What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for the management and coordination of the on‑site provision of the Exercise Medicine Service for all patients referred.
  • Responsible for the management and coordination of the out‑patient oncology physiotherapy service.
  • Responsible for ensuring all referred patients undergo a comprehensive initial assessment (including risk assessment) and setting a personalised prescribed course of exercise medicine.
  • Management and supervision of the Exercise Oncology Specialist (Personal trainer – Exercise Clinic).
  • Work in collaboration with the Centre Leader, and all relevant centre‑based staff to ensure a seamless patient pathway and coordination of a patient’s cancer care.
  • Actively contribute to engagement events to promote awareness and understanding of the service.
  • Ensure patients receive the highest level of service in line with GenesisCare policies and procedures.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of post‑graduate clinical experience, or equivalent, at a Band 6 level, ideally with experience in an oncology setting. Rotational experience in Surgery, Medicine, Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedics, and Neurology is essential.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a clinical setting, demonstrating autonomy and initiative in patient care.
  • Experience in teaching and supervising less experienced staff and students, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary and interagency collaboration to deliver high‑quality patient care.
  • Evidence of active involvement in service development and contributing to workplace improvements.
  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills and experience managing complex cases effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, tailored to various audiences, including patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads, manage time effectively, and delegate tasks as needed.
  • A clear understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, and audit, with the ability to apply these principles in a healthcare setting.
  • Commitment to best practices and awareness of relevant national standards and guidelines.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), with a commitment to maintaining and advancing clinical expertise.

Essential
Qualifications and Knowledge

  • BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable

  • Evidence or portfolio of post‑graduate professional development, particularly in oncology, rehabilitation, and exercise science.
  • Membership of a specialist interest group, such as the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Oncology and Palliative Care (ACPOPC).
