As a Mechanical Software and Lifing lead in the Condition Based Engineering team you will solve real world engineering problems and help pioneer the development of engine prediction capabilities for our fleet of gas turbines. Our digital twins combine engine data, reduced order physics models and machine learning to predict and optimize the life of critical gas turbine components subjected to real world operation. This allows Solar to support customers directly through aftermarket services, equipment life extension and risk management. To support this growing initiative, the organization is looking for a lead engineer with a mechanical engineering background and an aptitude for software and automation. This individual will thrive on leading a team to develop innovative solutions to enhance the predictive capabilities of our existing models and tools. What You Will Do:This position focuses on the development and maintenance of methods and tools used for complex, high value, turbomachinery components and supporting systems. This role provides opportunities to learn and apply concepts of lifing and probabilistic analysis as well as coding architecture and machine learning.Simulation: Develop models and tools to simulate gas turbine hardware such as blades, disks and nozzles, accounting for key degradation mechanisms. The role will also include modelling of adjacent systems such as cost, sales, and manufacturing operationsSoftware development: Develop and maintain backend software in support of our digital twins and their wider application both internally for analysts and externally for customers.Leadership: Experience leading projects and small teams to deliver engineering tools and models and interfacing with other development teams on multiteam software projectsInitiative: Propose, promote, and act on your own initiatives and ideas to drive progress and innovation, seeking out opportunities for personal development and the development of our technologies.Engagement: Be highly engaged in collaborative problem solving applying your background to push quick resolutions and long-term innovation. New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
