The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a professional mechanical engineer, performing design, project‑planning and construction management/monitoring duties in support of the installation. As a Mechanical Engineer, your role is project management, focusing on building services (MEP) for complex facilities. You will apply your engineering expertise to oversee the entire life cycle of large, multi‑phase projects. Your responsibilities will include managing a variety of works, from HVAC upgrades and facility refurbishments to large‑scale demolition and new construction. This involves managing contracts, ensuring projects meet all specifications, implementing quality control, and leading the commissioning of building services. Additionally, you will handle program planning and budget management, and provide expert coordination for facilities management.

A degree in an appropriate scientific field plus one year of specialized experience demonstrating the required key skills listed below, or
HND/City and Guilds/NVQ Level 5/6 in an appropriate scientific field. Progressively more years of specialized experience (as outlined in the key skills) are required for qualifications below degree level.

2. Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles and practices, and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
   
3. Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction methods, practices and techniques, and contracting standards relating to facilities engineering to determine compliance with current codes, regulations and laws.
   
4. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, procedures and laws, and current legislative issues.
   
5. Knowledge of the regulatory and statutory restrictions on expenditures of different types of funding.
   
6. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts and systems capabilities to be able to effectively accomplish assigned functions; to include knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control, budget systems and management.
   
7. Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas to formulate working drawings.
   
8. Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspection; to analyze, interpret, and apply results, rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
   
9. Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.

2. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
   
3. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
   
4. You will be required to complete a 6‑month probationary period.
   
5. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
   
6. You are required to complete all necessary training, and while not regularly drug tested, you may be subject to testing based on reasonable suspicion or safety incidents.
   
7. Effective oral and written communication is essential; you may act as a project liaison or serve on A&E selection boards.
