We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team here at Trant. Initially, the Graduate Mechanical Engineer will join our Water Division, where you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver clean and dirty water projects within the Wessex Water Region. Our Head Office is in Southampton and the counties in the Wessex Water region, include Wiltshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire & Somerset.


Together with the Project Engineer, you will support various Engineers and Projects Managers whilst learning hands-on, the required techniques and knowledge used to complete design and project engineering functions. Predominantly working on waste water projects, this will include storm capacity upgrades and phosphorous removal schemes.


This is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate to start their career, working with a talented multi-disciplinary engineering team whilst delivering interesting projects within a welcoming and supportive work environment.


Reporting to the Project Manager, duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Attend and contribute to internal and external design review and progress meetings
  • Participate in design co-ordination with other engineering disciplines and professionals
  • Produce and review mechanical & electrical design documentation
  • Review of specifications and designs against industry standards and specifications
  • Produce specifications and outline designs
  • Procurement of electrical & mechanical equipment and provide support for subcontract Procurement
  • Ensure that site installation works and quality match both design and appropriate industry standards
  • Record and review as-built information
  • Production of Risk Assessments and Method Statements

Qualifications/requirements:

  • BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Experience of CAD packages beneficial
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK without restrictions

About the Graduate Scheme:

The recently updated and improved Trant Graduate Scheme is offered to all Graduates joining the business. This a period of training and development over 24 months, where you are assigned a mentor to carry out basic training associated with your engineering discipline to enable you move from a Graduate Engineer to a Junior Engineer to a fully competent Engineer. You will be given the opportunity to work within our various divisions to gain a variety of project and contract experience.


The Graduate will join their engineering teams (being guided by a mentor) and will achieve competency in a range of engineering tasks. You will be offered membership of the Trant Career Development Association, where you will be provided mentored guidance and support to achieve accreditation and membership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).


During this time, goals will be set to help you develop your skills and reach your potential and at the end of the 24 months, you should be a competent Engineer and will be well on your journey towards chartership and growing your career.
