Job Purpose

  • Cover U21 Home and Away games in line with the requirements of Elite Player Performance Plan
  • Deliver a comprehensive screening and injury prevention programme for the U21 squad in conjunction with U21 Sport Science staff
  • Assess and treat U21 players as required

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the U21 Academy Doctor on a daily basis
  • Attend and input unto daily/ monthly U21 squad Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
  • Maintain an up-to-date audit of injuries for the U21 squad
  • Liaise and communicate with all relevant stakeholders, this may include but not exhaustive to Coaching staff, Parents, Psychologists, National team staff, Education staff, Player Wellbeing and External specialists
  • Build on existing work practices to further develop the service.
  • Uphold Club, Medical Department, Health & Safety, ethics and safeguarding protocols, acting as a role model to players and staff alike and reflecting the Club’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Employ awareness of welfare issues, handling all matters with the utmost professionalism, diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Attend refresher and development training when necessary
  • Be aware of emergency procedures and the Health & Safety at Work Act relating to the various sites
  • Provide cover in all U21 Home and away games
  • Provide cover on International Professional Development Phase games as required
  • Liaise with U21 Rehabilitation and Reconditioning staff to integrate injured players into normal training
  • Rehabilitate acute phase injuries and support longer term where service demands

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people
  • Act in accordance with the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
  • Be alert to signs of abuse, neglect, or safeguarding concerns and report these appropriately
  • Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model when working with or around children
  • Attend safeguarding training as required and keep knowledge up to date

Person Specification
Specific Experience

  • HCPC
  • CSP
  • ATMMiF
  • FA Safeguarding Certificate
  • BSc or MSc degree level qualification in Physiotherapy
  • Current and Valid driving licence
  • Experience working full time in a high-performance team environment
  • Experienced within football and either 1st team or PDP level

Skills & Knowledge

  • Maintains high professional and personal standards
  • Ability to work as part of a MDT, values and respects others
  • Be able to present to Parents, Coaches and other clinicians
  • Constantly seeks to improve the service delivery of the Academy Medical Department
  • A commitment to relevant Continuous Professional Development
  • Able to analyise available data and profile injuries
  • Able to design and implement screening and injury prevention programmes
  • Be flexible to cross cover other roles in the Academy Medical Department where required
  • Maintain good communication with First Team Medical staff to handover information when PDP players train with First Team
