Tunnel Mechanical Maintenance Technician – M25

Are you an experiencedTunnel Mechanical Maintenance Technicianseeking a new challenge? Do you have expertise in performing planned maintenance and defect repair work on a variety of mechanical equipment, including pumps, fans, and pipework? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are looking for a skilledTunnel Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of electrical systems, conducting routine inspections, diagnosing faults, and carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance for the Dartford River Crossing and other M25 tunnels.

The position can be based at ourDartford, South Mimms, or Leatherheadoffices; however, the role will involve travel to all tunnel locations across the M25 network and may require frequent work from the Holmesdale and Hatfield sites.

What you’ll be doing

  • To be conversant with the operation of all mechanical plant, within the Pumpstations , OIW sites and other M25 Tunnels, under normal and emergency conditions and be capable of operating systems under local or remote control.
  • To be able to carry out Planned Maintenance and defect repair work on a range of mechanical equipment which includes pumps, fans, pipe work etc.
  • To complete any records as required, including daily worksheets, and maintenance report sheets.
  • To read drawings and carry out fault finding and repairs without supervision.
  • To carry out all type of Civil and Mechanical Maintenance work within the capacity of an Mechanical Technician with or without direct supervision.
  • Carry out any work of a manual, semi-skilled or skilled nature of any type of trade description (including “out of trade” work) under the instructions of the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Drive various vehicles as required, including those for maintenance purposes.
  • Ensure that all relevant Health & Safety requirements are met and safe working practices are adopted at all times.
  • Ensure that vehicles, plant and equipment are available and maintained for safe operational use.
  • Ensure that routine vehicle checks and drivers hours books are completed in accordance with company procedures.
  • Attend incidents and work safely in accordance with policies to facilitate the early clear up of hazard/incident.
  • Any other duties within the capacity of a Maintenance Technician as required by Line Managers.

Who We’re Looking For – Key Requirements

We’re looking for a hands-on, safety-conscious professional with strong mechanical skills and a passion for maintaining essential infrastructure. If you take pride in problem-solving, working collaboratively, and delivering high-quality results, we’d love to hear from you.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Recognised Mechanical Qualification or Apprenticeship

Valid CSCS Safety Card (or willingness to obtain)

Experience operating MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms)

Proven ability to maintain and repair mechanical equipment (e.g. pumps, fans)

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills using manuals and drawings

Practical knowledge of welding, plumbing, and use of workshop machinery

Understanding of current Health & Safety legislation

Experience working near DNO equipment (G39 qualification)

Full UK Driving Licence – a van will be provided for travel between sites

Working Arrangements:

Standard working hours: Monday to Friday (day shifts)

Requirement to work night shifts for 3 weeks each quarter (for tunnel maintenance)

Participation in on-call rota (1 week in every 3) for emergency response
