Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and forward‑thinking Specialist Pharmacist to lead, coordinate and develop the Pharmacy Homecare Service across Nobles Hospital, Ramsey & District Cottage Hospital, and Mental Health Services. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a key specialist service and make a real, visible impact on patient care. You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management and development of the homecare service, ensuring safe, effective and timely access to biologics and other high‑cost medicines across acute and specialist care settings.

Main Duties

The role involves leading the implementation, monitoring and review of Trust policies relating to homecare, ensuring full compliance with professional and clinical standards, including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Professional Standards for Homecare Services and the Hackett Report. A strong emphasis of the post is on clinical excellence and governance. You will develop and deliver high‑quality patient‑focused services such as homecare consultations for initiation and switching of therapies, provide ongoing patient support, and lead on clinical screening of homecare prescriptions. You will also develop and maintain procedures for prescription screening, document control and approval, supporting safe and consistent practice across the organisation. You will play a key role in developing processes to manage the funding and commissioning challenges associated with homecare medicines, ensuring best value alongside optimal patient outcomes. As an active member of the wider Pharmacy Team, you will contribute to safe, effective and economical medicines optimisation for patients, carers and staff across our unique island healthcare system.

We would particularly welcome applications from pharmacists with a specialist interest or experience in gastroenterology.

Job Responsibilities

Enjoy higher salaries compared to the UK, along with annual salary increases that extend beyond typical UK NHS pay scales.

A generous annual leave entitlement starting at 27 days and 10 public holidays.

You may be eligible for a Blue Light Card, unlocking a wide range of exclusive discounts on shopping, food and leisure activities at hundreds of popular high‑street and online retailers.

Step away from NHS pressures and demands! The Islands healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.

Access to the staff canteen at Nobles Hospital where you can purchase affordable food and drinks in your breaks.

Free on‑site car parking.

Our on‑site education and training centre, Keyll Darree, comprises a lecture theatre, well‑stocked medical library, training facilities and a state‑of‑the‑art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners.

Ability to apply for an unpaid career break after 3 years service.

Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle‑to‑Work scheme after your first year of employment.

Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.

Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and sign‑posting on a wide range of issues.

Accommodation is available for the first 6 months in your role at a reduced rate for non‑Island residents.

A relocation package of up to £7,000 based on receipts is available for this role. Housing assistance is also available where the Department will pay the difference between your current mortgage/rent bill, and that of your new accommodation on the Isle of Man, up to a maximum of £250 per month. This role also qualifies for a recruitment incentive of £3,000, payable in the 1st, 13th, and 25th months of employment.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.

The Skills Gap in Edge Computing Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Edge computing is rapidly moving from niche concept to critical infrastructure. As organisations deploy connected devices, sensors, autonomous systems and real-time analytics, processing data closer to where it is generated has become essential. From smart cities and manufacturing to healthcare, transport, defence and telecommunications, edge computing underpins systems where latency, reliability and resilience matter. Demand for edge computing skills across the UK is rising steadily — yet employers consistently report difficulty finding candidates who are genuinely job-ready. Despite growing interest and academic coverage, universities are not fully preparing graduates for real edge computing jobs. This article explores the edge computing skills gap in depth: what universities teach well, what they consistently miss, why the gap exists, what employers actually want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build sustainable careers in edge computing.
