Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and skilled individual to join us as a permanent part -time Band 6 specialist neurological physiotherapist (22.5 hours) within the Milton Keynes Neurological Conditions Service. We also currently have a full time 12 month fixed term contract post for an additional Band 6 Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist (please see separate job advert).


Milton Keynes Neurological Rehabilitation Service (Neurological Conditions Service) is a specialist community-based multidisciplinary team who provide assessment, advice, support, management and/or rehabilitation to adults with acquired or long‑term neurological conditions (including, but not exhaustively, MS, Parkinsons, Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Injury, Neuromuscular and Neuro‑palliative conditions).


We work in partnership with people with neurological conditions, their families and / or carers. The team provide time‑limited input, supporting people to work towards meaningful goals, facilitating independence, promoting safety and function, enhancing quality of life and empowering service users to self‑manage their neurological condition.


We are a friendly, supportive team and you will be provided with regular supervision and opportunities for continuous professional development.


You will provide specialist evidence based neurological physiotherapy assessment, rehabilitation and management input to service users; often presenting with highly complex and diverse needs within our outpatient unit, as well as people’s homes or in the local community. This can be from point of early diagnosis through to end of life care. You will be working alongside experienced and specialist neurological Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Speech therapists, and Rehabilitation Assistants as part of a Multi‑disciplinary team (MDT), also working collaboratively with The Neuro Clinical Specialist Team, and other health and social care professionals.


Working for our organisation

As of February 2026 our Neurological Conditions Service office base moved to the Open University, Kents Hill, Milton Keynes. Neuro outpatient clinics will still be undertaken at Bletchley Community Hospital site in addition to community / domiciliary visits as part of the caseload.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide specialist holistic and physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse and complex physical, cognitive and psychological neurological presentations in outpatient, domiciliary and community settings (including patient’s own homes, care homes, leisure facilities as required) which can be from point of early diagnosis through to end of life care.


To develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.


To hold responsibility for own caseload working without direct supervision.


You will need to be a confident autonomous practitioner and an effective team player, with proven experience of working within a rehabilitation setting, including neurological rehabilitation. High level communication and interpersonal skills are required for this post.

Essential and Desirable

  • Physiotherapy degree or equivalent Physiotherapy professional qualification
  • UK Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of relevant post‑registration professional development training (CPD) relevant to neurological conditions or neurological treatment approaches.
  • Full & current UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle
  • Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Previous NHS experience working in core areas of physiotherapy including neurology, musculoskeletal, respiratory and rehabilitation
  • Evidence and willingness to demonstrate desire to specialise in neurological physiotherapy
  • Active member of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervision & training of assistants or students
  • Managing caseload of an area/ward including daily communication/interaction with all relevant parties
  • Knowledge of NHS systems, policies, procedures and current changes
  • Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge about common neurological conditions
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own caseload whilst managing others/ other service needs
  • Evidence of compliance with local and regulatory patient record keeping
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Applies evidence based practice
  • Ability to effectively recognise and manage clinical and non‑clinical complications and risks
  • Ability to work with patients who may display challenging behaviours
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide teaching/ training to variety of audiences e.g. colleagues within and outside the service, patients and their carers
  • An understanding of clinical audit and quality improvement processes
  • Experience of applying a variety of outcome measures
  • Ability to formulate clear problem lists, treatment plans and goals
  • Membership of relevant Specialist Interest Group (e.g. ACPIN)
  • Completion of normal movement or movement science courses
  • Undertaken or participated in a service delivery project, quality improvement project or audit
  • Community based role
  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Previous experience working as a band 6 specialist neurological physiohtherapist
  • Experience of being a student clinical educator
  • Knowledge of relevant specialist treatment and adjuncts such as: spasticity management; vestibular rehabilitation, splinting or casting; posture and seating systems; FES; aquatic physiotherapy
  • Undertaking of a clinical audit and/or quality improvement project
  • Experience or training in behaviour change models/approaches (e.g. coaching skills, Motivational Interviewing, Bridges Self‑Management)
