Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and skilled individual to join us as for a 12 month fixed term contract as a full time Specialist Neurological Band 6 Physiotherapist within the Milton Keynes Neurological Conditions Service.


We work in partnership with people with neurological conditions, their families and/or carers.


The team provide time-limited input, supporting people to work towards meaningful goals, facilitating independence, promoting safety and function, enhancing quality of life and empowering service users to self-manage their neurological condition.


Main duties of the job

You will need to be a confident autonomous practitioner and an effective team player, with proven experience of working within a rehabilitation setting, including neurological rehabilitation.


High level communication and interpersonal skills are required for this post.


About us

We are a friendly, supportive team and you will be provided with regular supervision and opportunities for continuous professional development.


You will be working alongside experienced and specialist neurological Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Speech therapists, and Rehabilitation Assistants as part of a Multi-disciplinary team (MDT), also working collaboratively with The Neuro Clinical Specialist Team, and other health and social care professionals.


As of February 2026 our Neurological Conditions Service office base moved to the Open University, Kents Hill, Milton Keynes. Neuro outpatient clinics will still be undertaken at Bletchley Community Hospital site in addition to community / domiciliary visits as part of the caseload.


Job responsibilities

To provide specialist holistic and physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse and complex physical, cognitive and psychological neurological presentations in outpatient, domiciliary and community settings (including patients own homes, care homes, leisure facilities as required) which can be from point of early diagnosis through to end of life care.


To develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.


To hold responsibility for own caseload working without direct supervision.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications

  • Physiotherapy degree or equivalent Physiotherapy professional qualification
  • UK Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of relevant post-registration professional development training (CPD) relevant to neurological conditions or neurological treatment approaches.
  • Membership of relevant Specialist Interest Group (e.g. ACPIN)
  • Completion of normal movement or movement science courses.
  • Previous NHS experience working in core areas of physiotherapy including neurology, musculoskeletal, respiratory and rehabilitation.
  • Experience of supervision & training of assistants or students.
  • Managing caseload of an area/ward including daily communication/interaction with all relevant parties.
  • Undertaken or participated in a service delivery project, quality improvement project or audit
  • Previous experience working as a band 6 specialist neurological physiohtherapist
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills; ability to adapt accordingly.
  • Able to work under pressure and be flexible.
  • Promotes and advocates for the neurological population.

Skills and knowledge

  • Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge about common neurological conditions.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own caseload whilst managing others/ other service needs.
  • Ability to formulate clear problem lists, treatment plans and goals.
  • Knowledge of relevant specialist treatment and adjuncts such as: spasticity management; vestibular rehabilitation, splinting or casting; posture and seating systems; FES; aquatic physiotherapy.
  • Undertaking of a clinical audit and/or quality improvement project.

Other

  • Full & current UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle.
