An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Team as a Senior Physiotherapist, based at Bedford Hospital. As part of the wider therapies service, our department is highly valued and respected across the Trust.


We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and well‑motivated physiotherapist to join us on a full‑time basis. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, including continence issues and musculoskeletal disorders related to pregnancy. You will be expected to work autonomously, providing clinical diagnoses and delivering evidence‑based physiotherapy interventions, while maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records.


Strong communication and documentation skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively within a busy clinical environment. The service is also committed to supporting student placements, offering opportunities for mentorship and professional development.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out advanced physiotherapeutic assessments for patients presenting with a wide range of complex physical and psychological conditions. They will be responsible for formulating clinical diagnoses and developing tailored treatment programmes to meet individual patient needs.


They will seek guidance and support from senior physiotherapists as needed to enhance clinical reasoning and decision‑making in highly complex cases.


As an autonomous practitioner, the post holder will manage their own caseload, taking full responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients, while delivering all aspects of clinical care independently.


In addition, they will provide supervision and education to junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and undergraduate students, supporting their development and contributing to a positive learning environment.

Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of your patient caseload.


Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients, including those with complex presentations or multiple pathologies.


Use advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to provide accurate diagnoses.


Formulate and implement individualised treatment programmes based on evidence-based practice and a range of therapeutic options.


Continuously evaluate treatment outcomes and adapt care plans using sound clinical reasoning.


Establish accurate prognoses, recommend appropriate interventions, and develop thorough treatment and discharge plans.


Assess patients' understanding of treatment proposals and obtain valid consent.


Work within the legal framework when treating patients who may lack the capacity to consent.


Person Specification
Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration

Experience

  • Previous clinical experience relevant to post
  • Contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, Technical Instructor or assistants.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous experience of SystmOne

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to manage a clinical caseload
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate training courses
