Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced physiotherapist to join the Critical Care and Surgical physiotherapy team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. This proactive team covers many speciality wards including Intensive Care and High Dependency Units, as well as specialist surgical wards including colorectal, urology, gynaecology and ENT. There is also an opportunity to develop skills to contribute to the Amputee Outpatient service. We are a friendly physiotherapy team who strive to provide excellent patient care with compassion, dignity and respect. We seek applicants with experience working within the acute setting and up‑to‑date knowledge of current developments in surgical and critical care, as well as discharge planning. The Trust supports staff development through appraisals, supervision and training, and provides clinical placements for students from Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham. The successful applicant will have experience supervising under‑graduate students.


Main Duties of the Job

  • Work with Lead Senior Physiotherapists in Critical Care, Surgery and Amputees to co‑ordinate and monitor an effective and efficient service to meet the needs of inpatients referred across Surgery and Critical Care.
  • Manage autonomously a complex inpatient caseload requiring Physiotherapy and MDT joint assessments on Critical Care and Surgical Wards.
  • Take responsibility for training, supervision and appraisals of more junior staff.
  • Participate in the 7‑day respiratory service to the medical, surgical and critical care wards and the emergency on‑call respiratory service.
  • Work with the Head of Physiotherapy and other senior physiotherapy colleagues to monitor, evaluate and develop existing services in Critical Care and Surgery in line with the changing needs of the Trust.
  • Depending on experience and service need, gain experience working within our Amputee Outpatient clinics.

Qualifications and Training (Essential)

  • Qualification in Physiotherapy at degree level
  • HCPC registered

Qualifications and Training (Desirable)

  • Post‑graduate training with accreditation towards Masters degree

Experience (Essential)

  • Post‑graduate experience of working in Surgery
  • Post‑graduate experience of working within Respiratory Care
  • Experience of managing a caseload with complex needs
  • Experience supervising staff including students
  • Experience working on a respiratory on‑call rota

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience of working at a senior level
  • Experience of working with children with respiratory problems
  • Experience of working with amputees
  • Experience of participating in clinical audit / service evaluation
