Senior Neurological Rotational Physiotherapist

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated neurological Physiotherapist to join our Band 6 Rotational scheme, rotating on a 7‑month rotation through a variety of clinical areas, including the neurosciences wards, trauma ward, neurological inpatient rehabilitation, neurological critical care, the neurological out‑patient service and elderly care.


This rotation will allow you to develop as a Band 6 and gain experience in both the acute and rehabilitation setting.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to patients within our neurological services, which includes elderly care wards, neurosciences wards, trauma ward, neurological in‑patient rehabilitation and the neurological out‑patient service.


To participate in the band 6 rotational scheme working for seven months across the Trust in a range of ward and out‑patient settings. There may also be opportunities to opt in and out of other rotations e.g. Paediatrics and neuroscience critical care unit.


This specialist rotation gives an excellent opportunity to further develop rehabilitation skills within a variety of acute settings.


CUH is a regional Major Trauma Centre and specialist provider of Stroke and Neurosciences Services. This rotational post will thereby allow a wealth of exposure to enhanced rehabilitation and discharge planning skills.


To develop skills in prioritisation, audit and management.

Person Specification
Skills

  • Ability to use professional communication strategies with patients, carers and members of the MDT and ability to modify appropriately.
  • Excellent inter‑personal skills
  • Evidence of self‑directed learning.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own caseload.
  • Ability to teach, guide and direct therapy assistants and students in clinical practice.
  • Competency to participate in weekend work including the ability to provide respiratory care to self‑ventilating patients.
  • Evidence of presentation skills
  • Evidence of participation in research / audit
  • Clinical Educator training
  • Evidence of appraisal skills
  • Experience of deputising for band 6/7.

Knowledge

  • Experience of reviewing and applying evidence based practice.
  • Ability to clinically reason the application of appropriate assessment and treatment techniques in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Competent in using a range of manual handling techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of discharge planning and onward referrals.
  • Knowledge of National guidelines to deliver and evaluate service.
  • Knowledge of The National Service Framework (NSF) for Long Term Conditions (2005).

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of relevant post‑graduate education / CPD activities
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate training
  • Member of Association of physiotherapist in neurology (ACPIN)

Experience

  • Relevant clinical work at band 5 level in a range of specialities including respiratory/critical care, neuro‑rehabilitation, stroke and elderly care
  • Experience in managing a variety of neurological conditions.
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
  • Postgraduate NHS physiotherapy experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Experience in mentoring students.
  • NHS Experience at Band 6 level
  • Experience of audit/research projects.
  • Experience of critical care including artificial airways
  • Experience of working as part of a respiratory on call rota.
  • Experience in splinting and orthotics.

Additional Requirements

  • The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
