CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust) is hiring an AHP Physiotherapy Professional for a fixed‑term contract of six months, ending 27 October 2025, based at Clayponds Hospital, London. Salary is £53,751–£60,651 per annum (incl. Outer HCAS pro‑rata). Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Closing date 27/10/2025 23:59.


Location: Clayponds Hospital – various towns in London.


Job overview

  • Provide clinical expertise in treating patients with musculoskeletal problems and in the education and supervision of less experienced team members.
  • Support management of the musculoskeletal team to deliver high‑quality services in primary and acute care settings.

Main duties

  • Provide a comprehensive service to patients with physiotherapy needs at a variety of locations. Skills required include:
  • Management of patients with complex musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and rheumatological disorders and conditions.
  • Advanced manual therapy and therapeutic exercise skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of patient self‑management and education.
  • Excellent communication with consultants, GPs and other healthcare professionals, to provide a holistic approach to patient management.
  • Initiate and participate in the development of new ideas and the evolution of existing systems within primary care and hospital‑based musculoskeletal services.
  • Provide structured supervision, in line with ERS guidelines, for more junior members of the team.
  • Carry out annual appraisals and create professional development plans with junior team members.
  • Deliver specific advanced level teaching for junior members of the team.
  • Organise, coordinate and deliver training for GPs and other healthcare professionals as required.
  • Plan service development and implement decisions.

Additional responsibilities (detailed)

  • Deputise for musculoskeletal team leads in their absence for day‑to‑day management tasks, such as checking new referrals against the team’s referral criteria.
  • Handle problems/issues as they arise and refer to more senior managers when necessary.
  • Support and liaise with the admin/booking teams.
  • Lead the planning and clinical education of undergraduate physiotherapy students.
  • Participate in the recruitment of junior physiotherapy staff.
  • Monitor activity and audit the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service.
  • Autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of conditions using appropriate assessment/diagnostic techniques.
  • Autonomously create individual treatment plans using suitable physiotherapy regimes for various patient groups.
  • Adopt a problem‑solving approach, engaging patients and carers in their treatment plan, negotiating agreed outcomes, obtaining consent, and educating patients on self‑care.
  • Evaluate and review treatment outcomes to facilitate discharge of patients.
  • Deliver care in a range of settings including clinics, GP surgeries and acute hospital as required.

Person specification
Education and qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma (P)hysiotherapy, BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent level.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • CSP membership; special interest group membership.

Experience

  • Good general experience, plus some specialist experience in musculoskeletal outpatient settings.
  • Participated in in‑service training.
  • Involved in service training evaluation or initiated service change.
  • Responsible for supervision of staff and students.
  • Experience working in MDT within a Trust.

Knowledge

  • Relevant postgraduate courses completed or commenced.
  • Awareness of research methods, patient outcomes, clinical governance and audit.
  • Good general background knowledge of orthopaedic conditions and their management.
  • High level knowledge of musculoskeletal conditions and their management, especially spinal pain.
  • Knowledge of pain management strategies for chronic conditions.
  • Participation in research, outcomes, clinical governance and audit.

Skills and abilities

  • Excellent organisational skills and time management.
  • Thorough and reliable.
  • Good problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as a sole practitioner in GP surgeries.
