Technical Manager (Mechanical) - Building ServicesLocation: Hertfordshire/LondonSalary: Up to £75,000 per annum + Car allowance + Hybrid WorkingContract: Permanent, Full-Time (40 Hours)Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Engineering & Design GovernanceExpert Guidance: Provide high-level technical direction on mechanical systems, ventilation, POLs, and pressure systems, ensuring all installations align with design specifications and legislative requirements.Design Review & Challenge: Strengthen design management by reviewing technical solutions, challenging existing designs where necessary, and leveraging modern technology (Heat Pumps, Smart Building IoT, and BMS) to improve buildability.Lifecycle Strategy: Use technical insights to reduce whole-life costs and support the engineering department in developing energy-reduction and decarbonisation roadmaps.Compliance, Safety & AuditingSite Inspections: Lead rigorous site inspections and technical audits, often collaborating with external Authorising Engineers (AEs) to verify that systems and procedures remain safe and effective.Risk Mitigation: Identify root causes of technical issues across various projects and implement robust improvement plans to reduce operational risk.Standardisation: Confirm that all installations comply with industry guidance (CIBSE, BESA, BSRIA) and specific standards such as HTMs, BG/29, BG/50, and JSP.Training & Digital InnovationCapability Development: Oversee training for Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), specifically facilitating workshops and training for Authorised Persons (APs) to maintain site-wide technical competence.Data-Driven Insights: Utilise Excel and Power BI to analyse engineering data, spotting trends and presenting clear, evidence-based insights to support strategic decision-making.Digital Transformation: Leverage SharePoint and automated workflows to build dashboards that increase process transparency and operational efficiency.Candidate RequirementsTechnical ExpertisePressure Systems Specialist: A comprehensive understanding of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and the ability to manage safe, compliant operations.Industry Standards: Deep working knowledge of CIBSE, BESA, and BSRIA guidance, alongside familiarity with HTMs (Healthcare Technical Memoranda) and JSP standards.Digital Proficiency: Advanced skills in data analysis (Power BI/Excel) and experience building automated workflows within SharePoint.Professional QualificationsChartered Engineer (CEng): Must hold Chartership status, demonstrating professional credibility and a commitment to engineering excellence.Strategic Thinker: Ability to collaborate with other SMEs to solve complex technical problems and drive continuous improvement across the business.What We OfferWellbeing: 24/7 digital GP service for you and your family, plus comprehensive financial and employee assistance.Family Support: Enhanced benefits including industry-leading maternity, paternity, and parental bereavement leave.Sustainability: The opportunity to work for an organisation committed to safety first and a net-zero environmental impact.Join a team dedicated to building a better, more sustainable society.
