Senior Mechanical Engineer

12‑Month Contract | Full-Time Location: Flexible hybrid working/ Mobile Working

About the Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee the planning, implementation and management of mechanical services across a wide range of properties. You'll provide expert design input, manage statutory compliance, lead contract administration and ensure all mechanical systems meet regulatory and organisational standards.

You will report to the Facilities Co‑ordinator and provide line management to a Mechanical Services Technician.

This is an initial 12‑month contract, with the potential for extension depending on organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Services & Compliance

  • Develop, implement and monitor statutory mechanical services programmes, including:
    • Mechanical plant and gas installations
    • Air conditioning systems
    • Legionella risk assessments and maintenance planning
    • Firefighting equipment and sprinkler systems
  • Act as a technical authority, keeping up to date with legislation, industry developments and best practice.

Design, Specification & Project Delivery

  • Lead design and specification work for mechanical heating systems, including BEMS and conventional controls.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering and energy colleagues on capital, planned and reactive maintenance projects.
  • Support the development of project briefs, advise on construction processes, identify statutory constraints and assist with budget preparation.
  • Oversee all stages of the design process, including technical appraisals, site supervision, issuing variation instructions and ensuring quality standards.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Prepare, monitor and manage annual mechanical services budgets.
  • Manage budgets for new build and refurbishment projects, ensuring value for money and adherence to best practice.
  • Support the development of financial processes and standards across the Facilities function.
  • Monitor workloads, audits, inspections and service delivery targets for staff under your supervision.

  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites as required.
