Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer


Location: Birmingham


Salary: £55,000


Join our Birmingham team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This role centres on driving the technical delivery of mechanical outputs for the Mechanical & Electrical team. This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the work of intermediate, assistant, and trainee engineers, ensuring all technical drawings, specifications, and schedules fully convey design requirements while meeting strict company standards and Quality Assurance procedures. You will have the opportunity to work on projects from initial site surveys and feasibility through to the production of tender packages, commissioning, and final testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret client requirements and statutory obligations to design comprehensive building services.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including calculation files and correspondence.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, company procedures, and standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design team members as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prepare detailed specifications, drawings, and schedules for all electrical services to convey design requirements clearly.
  • Review and verify design work, including that completed by Engineers and Assistant Engineers.
  • Conduct site surveys, commissioning, and testing as required.
  • Prepare budget estimates, cost plans, tender documents, and contract arrangements.
  • Attend project and technical meetings.

The ideal candidate will have a forward-thinking approach to drive the delivery of our electrical services within the well-established Building Services and Environmental team.


Skills and Experience

  • 5 years + post-qualification experience within a building services consultancy environment.
  • Membership of CIBSE or equivalent, or a proven depth of technical competence commensurate with a senior engineering position.
  • Experience in checking design work undertaken by intermediate and junior engineers to maintain high output standards.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive mechanical specifications, calculation files, and schedules that comply with all relevant regulations.
  • A track record of coordinating with internal and external design team members to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to project delivery.
  • Ability to assist with budget estimates and cost planning to support the commercial success of project work.
  • Experience in passing on design knowledge to colleagues and supporting the professional development of more junior staff.
