Due to increased workload, we are looking for experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to work in all areas of the Product Life Cycles with the drive and enthusiasm to join Europe's leading missile systems provider, developing and designing Test Equipment solutions for the next generation of weapons.



  • Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on Experience
  • Location: Stevenage (may offer relocation package)
  • Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification
  • Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. After the offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity

Due to increased workload, we are looking for experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineers to work in all areas of the Product Life Cycles with the drive and enthusiasm to join Europe's leading missile systems provider, developing and designing Test Equipment solutions for the next generation of weapons.


You will support design, development and proving activities, throughout the product lifecycle, for a wide range of bespoke test system hardware.


This opportunity provides fantastic development opportunities for career progression within MBDA.


What we’re looking for from you

  • Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant experience in Mechanical Design and Development.
  • A strong understanding and use of GD&T would be advantageous.
  • The ability to lead mechanical design work packages and have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with the awareness and understanding of the challenges that this may bring.
  • Excellent verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the capability to write clear and concise engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to influence and negotiate with partners across the business.
  • Experience of supplier engagement and development across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams.
  • The awareness and understanding of cultural differences with the ability to adapt accordingly.
  • A willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner, and the ability to assess and set priorities and deal with multiple issues on a regular basis.
  • Relevant 3D CAD/CAE experience (training on our preferred CAD tools will be given).
  • An understanding of manufacturing processes, design for EMC, connectors to BS & military specifications, tolerance studies environmental test, thermal management design, material selection would be advantageous.
