Working for Waukesha Bearings Ltd. as a Mechanical Fitter involves preparing, final dressing, and assembling fluid-film bearings according to specified standards and quality requirements.

You will be based at our site in Polmadie, Glasgow, where we design and manufacture hydrodynamic fluid-film bearings, active magnetic bearing systems, and seals for high-performance turbomachinery and industrial rotating equipment, primarily serving the oil & gas, power generation, marine, and industrial markets. We are part of Dover Precision Components, a subsidiary of Dover Corporation.

Annual Salary: For a rotating shift pattern of 2 weeks on early (6am) and 2 weeks on backshift (2pm), including an 18% shift premium, total earnings amount to £44,919.62, plus productivity bonuses, pension, and life insurance.

What You Will Bring

  • HNC, SVQ/NVQ level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, or completion of a mechanical apprenticeship
  • At least 5 years of experience as an industrial mechanical fitter post-apprenticeship
  • Ability to interpret metric and imperial engineering drawings
  • Experience in preparing machined components for final assembly
  • Proficiency with hand tools, rotating equipment, air tools, gas torches, overhead cranes, manual handling, and slinging
  • Knowledge of precision machining processes is advantageous

What You Will Do

  • Perform assembly, final dressing, health & safety, and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure bearings meet quality standards at assembly
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following health and safety regulations
  • Collaborate with Production and Shift Managers to resolve assembly issues such as defects and material shortages
  • Support continuous improvement by investigating and analyzing assembly issues to identify root causes and implementing corrective actions
