Our niche sector market leading client has been established since the late 1800’s and supply their innovative and unique solutions to more than 150 countries, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing program of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit a dynamic and articulate Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their vibrant and professional R&D team.


Reporting to the Design and Development Manager, the successful Mechanical Design Engineer will support the global group in all aspects of both new product design and development as well as existing product enhancements and improvements, being responsible for the mechanical design, product build and test of new innovative ideas from concept through to production.


Committed to remaining industry leaders by staying ahead of the competition, as a Mechanical Design Engineer you will play a crucial role in supporting both custom projects and new product development initiatives where you will be responsible for developing concept designs to pre-production release, reviewing the current product range, and identifying improvements, as well as actively contributing in daily projects, working on bespoke designs that meet customer requirements and drive the organization's growth.


Duties for this varied and challenging opportunity will include (but not be limited to):


  • New Product Development - working closely with the Design and Development manager to translate product visions to life and utilizing engineering principles and innovative thinking to generate new mechanical solutions. You will conduct analysis and simulations to validate design feasibility and performance and collaborate with internal teams to prototype, test, and validate new product designs, supporting the transition of new products from the development phase to manufacturing and ensuring seamless integration and efficient production processes.
  • Custom Project Support - collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives and conducting feasibility studies and technical evaluations to determine the viability and optimal design approach for custom projects. You will also develop conceptual and detailed designs using Solidworks and create and review engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards and regulations, with data management skills using Solidworks PDM proving advantageous.
  • Project Design Management - tracking project progress, identifying risks, and implementing effective mitigation strategies to ensure timely and successful project completion and assisting with project documentation, including design files, specifications, and reports. You will create fully detailed, tested and profitable Solution Specifications for manufacturing including 3D CAD models, Fully dimensioned engineering production drawings, Engineering drawings to BS8888/ISO standards, Assembly drawings, BOMS and Test data.


To be considered for this exceptional opportunity it is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate at least 3 years of Mechanical Engineering design experience, with proven projects taken from concept design to delivery and comprehensive skills in the use of Solidworks with critical attention to detail and excellent problem-solving abilities.


Knowledge of manufacturing processes including Plastic moulding, CNC machining, Casting and Sheet metal forming will prove distinctly advantageous, as will experiences with system design with interface to electrical, electronics and control.
