Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Plastics & SolidWorks Specialist

Location: Tamworth

Salary: up to 45k

Reports to: Lead Design Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in plastics and proven SolidWorks expertise. You will be responsible for creating bespoke drawings, solutions, and bills of materials for a variety of projects. Working closely with our Technical Design Team, Lead Design Engineer, Technical Sales Engineers, and world-class suppliers, you will help deliver exceptional products and technical support.

This role is ideal for a dedicated team player who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys contributing to business success, and is eager to work in a fast-paced, innovative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales teams and customers to design bespoke solutions for plastics ancillary, recycling, and other business areas.
  • Convert concepts into practical, manufacturable design solutions.
  • Create detailed drawings, bespoke designs, and compile accurate bills of materials.
  • Undertake cost control analysis and apply design-for-manufacture principles to reduce costs.
  • Ensure designs meet engineering standards and industry best practice.
  • Liaise with the installation team to ensure timely delivery of solutions.
  • Conduct site visits to provide technical support as required.
  • Manage work packages, overseeing part configuration and development.
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in SolidWorks.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage with all levels of the business.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Plastic Sector Experience
  • Experience in designing fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Previous exposure to factory layout design.
  • Familiarity with cost control and project budgeting.
