JOB – Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION – Leicester

TERM – Permanent

SALARY – £35,000 to £45,000 per annum (plus benefits)


My client is a well-established machinery manufacturer based in Leicester, designing and building special purpose machinery and automated equipment for a range of industrial sectors. They are looking to expand their engineering department by taking on a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on the full lifecycle of design projects, from concept through to manufacture and installation.


The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• A degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

• Experience working on the design of special purpose machinery, automated systems, or complex assemblies

• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)

• Good understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes

• Experience producing detailed drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines


The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

• Designing and developing special purpose machinery and automation systems

• Producing 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and BOMs

• Liaising with production, electrical, and project teams to ensure smooth project delivery

• Supporting prototype builds and design validation

• Providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle

• Contributing to continuous improvement and innovation within the design team
