We're currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to play a key role in the delivery of a £30 million data centre retrofit project in Slough.

This is a critical position within a live or partially live environment, requiring someone who understands the challenges of upgrading and integrating mechanical systems while maintaining operational integrity. The role demands a hands-on leader with a strong background in mission-critical or highly serviced environments.

The Role

You will take ownership of all mechanical construction activities on site, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of mechanical packages within a constrained retrofit environment.

Working closely with project leadership, consultants, and subcontractors, you will be responsible for coordinating works across multiple phases, ensuring minimal disruption to existing operations where applicable.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing day-to-day mechanical construction activities across HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC systems, pipework, and associated infrastructure
  • Coordinating retrofit and upgrade works within a live or phased data centre environment
  • Driving programme delivery, ensuring works are completed in line with key milestones and sequencing constraints
  • Overseeing subcontractors to ensure compliance with design, specifications, and quality standards
  • Implementing and enforcing HSE standards, particularly within high-risk and operational environments
  • Supporting and managing commissioning readiness, including system checks, pressure testing, and pre-commissioning activities
  • Working closely with electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to ensure integrated delivery
  • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with retrofit works, access, and system tie-ins
  • Attending and leading site meetings, progress reviews, and coordination workshops
  • Reporting progress, risks, and performance to senior project stakeholders

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
