  • Monitor progress, assess work for completeness and report any issues, variations or delays.
  • Complete installation test reports and all required job documentation to the required standard.
  • Ensure all tools, lifting gear and equipment are correctly certified and/or calibrated.
  • Maintain positive relationships with client representatives and other contractors on site.
  • Undertake specialist training as required and keep up to date with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Promote and apply continuous improvement and best practice in all aspects of the work.

About you

You are an experienced mechanical installation professional, already operating in a lead or supervisory capacity and used to managing small teams of engineers/technicians on site. You are comfortable working in live industrial environments and have broad experience of installation, testing and documentation within similar sectors.

You can:

  • Draw on 5+ years' experience of industrial mechanical installation, including conveyors, pneumatics and general mechanical fitting.
  • Confidently read and work from mechanical schematics, layout drawings and understand interlocks and safety circuits.
  • Carry out site surveys to support proposals and detailed installation planning.
  • Work on your own initiative while providing clear day-to-day direction to others.
  • Use IT software for job planning, reporting and timesheets.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and other trades.
  • Balance a strong focus on safety and compliance with a practical, delivery-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • A full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Your own comprehensive mechanical installation toolkit, including cordless tools.
  • Experience of rigging and slinging / overhead crane operations.
  • Experience of drafting Risk Assessments, Method Statements and lift plans.
  • Experience in mechanical/piping fabrication, steel structures and mechanical-civil interfaces.
  • A team-oriented, customer-focused attitude and flexibility to work away as required.

Qualifications & certifications

Note: The following are listed as Essential and Desirable, but all are subject to the job's requirements. Only include if applicable.

  • Essential:
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical discipline.
  • CSCS safety card (or equivalent).

  • Desirable:
  • RTITB FLT licence.
  • MEWP / IPAF 3a, 3b (or equivalent).
  • SSSTS or similar site supervision qualification.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
