An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our friendly and supportive Intermediate Care and Community Therapy Team based in Newton Abbot.

You will work as part of an established multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality physiotherapy services across community and intermediate care settings. We're recruiting for an individual to join our Physiotherapy services on a part time fixed-term or secondment opportunity, for a 12 month contract, within our friendly Intermediate Care and Community Therapy Team in Newton Abbot. Whether you're already working at Band 6 level or you're an experienced Band 5 ready for the next step, we'd love to hear from you!


Main duties of the job

This is a fantastic opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centred physiotherapy across a range of community settings. You'll work autonomously and as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, which includes nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists, social workers, dietitians, and more.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Delivering high-quality, patient-centred physiotherapy to support rehabilitation and independence at home.
  • Managing your own caseload across a wide range of conditions and levels of complexity.
  • Working closely with GPs, Consultants, Nurses, Paramedics, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and other professionals.
  • Preventing avoidable hospital admissions and facilitate timely, safe discharges.
  • Participating in our supportive weekend rota (no overnight on-call commitment).
  • Engaging in internal rotation opportunities, including Urgent Community Response work, to diversify your clinical skills.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
  • State registration - current HCPC certificate
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent Postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field
  • Experience within the NHS including experience as a junior in a broad rotational post covering a range of experience in orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Post graduate training/experience in rehabilitation and elderly care

Knowledge and experience
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of musculoskeletal, neurological and medical conditions common in the elderly
  • Knowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines
  • Experience of primary care rehabilitation
  • Experience with Amputee management, treatment and rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of up-to-date BACPAR and NICE guidelines for management
  • Experience with respiratory management of patients with COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Pneumonia, Respiratory Infections, COVID-19 and other respiratory conditions
  • Knowledge of the safeguarding adults process

Specific Experience
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience supervising student physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistant/technical instructors/support workers.
  • Some experience working with a biopsychosocial approach to assessment and treatment
  • Experience of working in inpatient, outpatient and community settings.
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and participation in research and audit
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex legislation surrounding health and adult social care.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
