One of our flagship contracts is with the Ministry of Defence at a major base near Watford – a complex, high‑profile environment where we provide a full range of hard, soft, and technical FM services.


We’re now seeking a Building Services Mechanical / Commercial Gas Engineer to join the multi‑disciplined maintenance and reactive technician team – working full time in a single site role at Northwood HQ, ensuring compliance with the Gas Safety regulations for the site wide commercial gas fired installations and associated heating and hot water installations, building services plant and equipment, as delegated by the Engineering Supervisors / Managers in support of the maintenance of the site under the terms of the Northwood PFI contract.


As a Multi Skilled Technician – You Will

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance, statutory compliance tasks and reactive works investigations/repairs on, but not limited to, the commercial gas fired systems on site.
  • Service, test, diagnose and repair process control systems and automatic control devices related to the building services gas fired plant and equipment.
  • Carry out tasks associated with L8 compliance for the prevention and control of legionella risks.
  • Liaise / assist with other services as necessary for the efficient delivery of work activities, workmanship and productivity to comply with the performance standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance of at least SC level.
  • Use provided test and monitoring equipment for the purpose of maintaining engineering system operational performance and to aid fault diagnostics and repair, interrogate and adjust systems to maintain correct operation of plant and equipment.
  • Carry out repairs, modifications and installations of plumbing, heating systems and hot/cold water services in copper, plastic, mdpe, black iron and galvanised pipe using soldering, braising, welding, pressfit and compression methods of fitting.
  • Carry out Skilled Person duties as required for the engineering services on site in compliance with JSP375 Volume 3 as applicable, including preparation of installations for others.
  • Where required undertake and implement minor capital works projects.
  • Participate in the site on-call out of hours rota as and when requested by Line Manager.
  • Undertake any other tasks that may arise from time to time as required and directed by Line Manager / Supervisor.

This role requires a minimum level of security clearance and may also require a higher level of National Security Vetting. You should be aware that certain levels of clearance or specific projects and/or sites have UK residency requirements; and any dual or multiple nationalities must be declared. Any persons who do not fulfil these residency requirements may be unable to obtain the required level of clearance and would not be eligible to undertake this role.


As a Multi Skilled Technician – We Need

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (including recognised apprenticeship) with a commercial gas / heating bias.
  • Gas Safe registered for commercial gas installations.
  • Hold some of the following: COCN1, CIGA1, CORT1, TPCP1/1A, CPA1, CCCN1, COMCAT1, MET4.
  • Maintenance and set up of gas fired burners.
  • Maintenance of gas pressure regulator installations (PRIs).
  • Working knowledge of other building services and trades.
  • Excellent team working and problem solving capabilities.
  • Must be able to fully satisfy the Client security clearance minimum requirements (SC).
