Your purpose

You will be a highly experienced physiotherapist with the ability to work independently and deliver the highest standards of clinical skills to patients. You will be responsible for delivering advanced musculoskeletal assessment, triage, and care to a varied caseload.


You will be responsible for referring patients into the most appropriate services within the agreed pathways, including referrals for appropriate imaging, GP review for bloods/investigations, orthopaedics, and rheumatology.


How Your Role Fits Within Our Team

As an Advanced Physiotherapist Specialist, you will be managed by an Area Manager and work within an Area team of other clinicians. You will be supported clinically by an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) Lead, a Physiotherapy Development Lead (PDL), and more broadly by the Clinical Performance Lead.


Key Responsibilities

  • To work as an autonomous advanced practitioner, providing and delivering neuromusculoskeletal virtual physiotherapy assessments and management plans in 20-minute appointments.
  • To act independently to assess, analyse, and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual patients, including those presenting with complex conditions, to determine their need for further MSK or non‑MSK intervention. This should involve an understanding of when to refer to other services such as diagnostics, pathology, trauma & orthopaedics, medication reviews, pain management, rheumatology, community physiotherapy, and injection therapy.
  • To understand each patients’ needs and expectations, and irrespective of their backgrounds and/or beliefs, to provide them with the quality of service to the standards the company expects.
  • To demonstrate excellence in report writing, and evidence an ability to complete reports autonomously without the need for further support.
  • To maintain up‑to‑date records in line with professional standards. These must be completed in a timely manner, whilst abiding by Ascenti internal procedures and Service Level Agreements.
  • Keeping an up‑to‑date file of your CPD achievements, in line with HCPC guidelines.
  • To identify and manage any risks to quality, such as workload, communication, and team working, with the support of your manager and APP lead, and to advise on any issues regarding service delivery.
  • To work as part of a team and liaise with other physiotherapists internally to ensure delivery of clinically effective care.
  • To communicate effectively with all stakeholders (including patients, clinical colleagues, support functions, and external healthcare professionals etc.) on relevant matters in line with Ascenti procedures.
  • Ensuring effective patient management and working in collaboration with and/or referring to clinical colleagues in private hospitals and community settings including the GP where necessary.

Knowledge, Experience, And Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of neuromusculoskeletal symptomatology and evidence-informed practice.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical examination skills (virtually), for example recognising MSK masquerades and nonMSK presentations.
  • Strong and accurate diagnostic skills from a virtual subjective and objective assessment.
  • Knowledge of medicines management, Injection therapy options, Imaging options that are most appropriate for various conditions/presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills, proven through positive feedback from patients.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, prioritise effectively and manage your time efficiently.
  • 5 years + of post‑graduate musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice experience; preferably in both public and private settings, unless exceptional clinical skills and knowledge can be demonstrated in those who have less than 5 years of MSK clinical experience.
  • Using modern IT systems or software to support your practice, e.g. videocall technology or electronic note taking.
  • Experience of working as a virtual Physiotherapist.
  • Demonstrable experience in referring for appropriate diagnostics.
  • Risk assessment and management.
  • Evidence of conducting initial assessments, providing diagnosis, and prescribing advanced treatment plans across a wide range of complex MSK conditions.
  • Experience working with a wide range of patients as part of a multidisciplinary team, communicating clinical information clearly and providing consistent patient care.
  • Evidence of producing well‑structured written documents or reports. BSc (hons) Physiotherapy degree of 2:2 or above or Pre‑Reg Masters in Physiotherapy.
  • Evidence of continued professional development which evidences the skills / competencies required for this role.
  • MSc degree in Physiotherapy / Advanced Practice.
  • Working towards MSc in Advanced Practice.
  • Masters (L7) level modules relating to FCP competencies.
  • Demonstrable competence through accredited courses in imaging (MRI/CT/DXA/UKS) training; IR(ME)R Training.
  • Full HCPC membership is essential and must be maintained throughout employment
