Overview

We are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled MSK physiotherapist (Band 7) to join our MSK team in County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. This post covers the Adult Physiotherapy Department at Bishop Auckland Hospital and Darlington Memorial Hospital. The iMSK service comprises Upper & Lower limb, Spinal, A&E, Hand and Rheumatology ESPs, with training and supervision for staff. CPD opportunities are offered tailored to individual needs.


Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical intervention for musculoskeletal patients as part of the established MSK team.
  • Assess and manage musculoskeletal disorders; handle a caseload including long-term conditions and multi-factorial needs referred from primary and secondary care.
  • Contribute to service evaluation, audit, and provide day-to-day clinical leadership to senior and junior physiotherapists.
  • Provide training, education, mentorship and appraisal for staff and students; contribute to professional practice development and service transformation and evaluation, supporting research and innovation.
  • Work closely with peers, FCP and ESP Practitioners, and the Governance and Operational team.
  • Develop clinical and leadership skills, with CPD and opportunities to participate in quality improvement projects led by ESP & FCP groups.
  • Support staff wellbeing and use of CPD and clinical supervision frameworks within the CDDFT guidelines.
  • Support the orthopaedic fracture clinic service at Darlington Memorial Hospital and be able to work across Trust sites.

Person Specification

Experience



  • Essential: Comprehensive MSK experience within the NHS, including core competencies in musculoskeletal, neurology and pain management; experience managing patient group classes; ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; strong communication skills.
  • Desirable: Experience in trauma and orthopaedic service environments.

Statutory Registration



  • Essential: HCPC registered

Qualifications



  • Essential: BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent; CPD diary with evidence of reflective practice; postgraduate training to modular masters level; broad MSK outpatient experience.
  • Desirable: MSc-level MSK qualification; injection therapy competence; postgraduate MSK training to MSc level.

Special Skills & Knowledge



  • Essential: Current knowledge of MSK and rheumatological management; clear written and verbal communication; ability to organise, prioritise and manage waiting lists; IT skills; ability to work at pace with attention to detail.
  • Desirable: Innovative working approaches; audit and research skills; presenting skills.

Special Requirements



  • Essential: Able to travel across Trust sites to meet post requirements.
  • Desirable: Experience of SystmOne for clinical note keeping.
