OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Systems Test Engineer for our client located in Stallingborough. This is a contract opportunity up to October.

As a Systems Test Engineer, you'll be embedded in the test engineering team, working alongside firmware, hardware, and compliance engineers. Your day-to-day work spans from functional bring-up and interface characterisation through to scripting automated test suites and expanding the HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) test system to accommodate new product variants.

Summary

You are an experienced test or embedded systems engineer comfortable working across hardware bring-up, software/firmware interface testing, and test automation. You're at home with a logic analyser in one hand and a Python script in the other : equally able to characterise a new PCB's wireless interface and write the automated test that will verify it on every future build.

You'll work alongside the myenergi test team to validate new product variants from first-board bring-up through to factory-readiness, and to build the automated test infrastructure that makes repeatable validation possible at scale.

Hardware Bring-up & Interface Validation

Validate new PCB variants at board level — power-on sequencing, signal integrity, interface checks

Test and characterise all communication interfaces: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, 4G/LTE, and PLC (ISO 15118)

Diagnose and document hardware/firmware integration issues; work with firmware engineers to identify root causes

Support pre-compliance testing activities alongside the companies compliance team : EMC prescreening, electrical safety checks, grid connection interface validation (G98/G99 awareness)

HIL Testing & System Expansion

Execute existing HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) test suites for new product variants

Expand HIL system compatibility to cover new hardware configurations : add new test points, update stimulus/response scripts, validate coverage gaps

Work with the firmware and test teams to align HIL scenarios with real-world use cases

Test Automation & Scripting

Write new automated test scripts covering interface, functional, and regression test cases

Build or extend test applications and tooling that integrate with the existing CI/CD pipeline

Develop reporting infrastructure : clear, structured test reports that communicate pass/fail status, coverage, and defect details to engineering and product teams

Align test cases with Jira and ensure traceability from requirement through to test evidence

Factory Test Support

Support production engineering to configure and validate bed-of-nails test fixtures for new variants

Assist with EOL (end-of-line) test rig setup — ensuring factory test coverage matches product specification

Document factory test procedures and pass/fail criteria clearly

Embedded systems test experience : hands-on validation of electronic hardware/firmware products; comfortable with PCB bring-up, lab equipment, and debugging unfamiliar boards

Interface & protocol testing : proven experience testing at least two of: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, 4G/LTE, PLC or CAN : at a functional and diagnostic level (not just ping-and-pass)

Test automation scripting : Python or equivalent; experience writing structured automated test scripts that run in a CI/CD context

HIL or bench test systems : experience operating and extending hardware-in-the-loop or automated bench test environments

Test reporting : able to produce clear, structured test reports; experience with test management tools (Jira, Qase, or equivalent)

Communication : comfortable working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment; clear written and verbal reporting

On-site availability at Stallingborough for the duration of the contract

Desirable Skills & Experience

Knowledge of EV charging standards or residential energy systems (IEC 61851, OCPP, ISO 15118, G98/G99)

Experience with pre-compliance or EMC test activities

Familiarity with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)

Factory test or production test experience (bed-of-nails, ICT, EOL)

Electronics or Embedded Systems degree (or equivalent practical background)

AI-assisted testing : use of AI tools to accelerate test script generation, documentation, or defect analysis

Where to Advertise Edge Computing Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise edge computing jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards and channels that reach embedded, IoT, 5G MEC and edge AI engineering talent. Edge computing sits at the intersection of embedded systems, networking, cloud infrastructure and real-time data processing — and the professionals who specialise in it are a small, highly technical community not well served by general job boards. Candidates with genuine edge and IoT expertise are rarely browsing general platforms, and roles in this space are frequently misunderstood or miscategorised by non-specialist recruiters. This guide, published by EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise edge computing roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Edge Computing Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Edge Computing Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and the IoT, 5G and edge AI hiring trends shaping UK edge computing careers over the next three years. Edge computing is quietly becoming one of the most consequential technology shifts of the decade — and the jobs market is starting to reflect that. As the limitations of centralised cloud infrastructure become apparent across industries that require real-time processing, ultra-low latency, and data sovereignty, the demand for professionals who can design, build, and manage computing at the edge has moved from niche to mainstream. But the edge computing jobs market of 2026 is not yet the mature, well-defined landscape that cloud computing has become. It is still forming. New architectures are emerging, standards are being established, and the range of industries deploying edge infrastructure is expanding rapidly — from manufacturing and telecommunications to healthcare, retail, autonomous vehicles, and smart cities. That creates a particular kind of opportunity for job seekers: the chance to build deep expertise in a discipline that is growing faster than the talent pipeline serving it. The candidates who will thrive over the next three years are those who understand where edge computing is heading — which use cases are driving commercial deployment, which technologies are defining the architecture of distributed systems, and how the skills required to work at the edge differ meaningfully from those that served professionals well in centralised cloud environments. This article breaks down what the UK edge computing jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the curve.
