Student Mechanical Design Engineer - 1 Year Placement

We have an exciting opportunity to join us for a student placement as a Student Mechanical Design Engineer.


Responsibilities

  • To design innovative life safety products that are optimised for high volume manufacturing, manual and automated assembly, quality, robustness, reliability and ease of installation.
  • Develop design knowledge of high-volume plastic injection moulded components and small metal fabrications.
  • Participate in DFMEAs and improve designs to remove any risks.
  • Be involved in simulations such as Finite Element Analysis (Static & Dynamic), Computational Fluid Dynamics, Raytracing, Tolerance analysis and mould flow analysis to optimise designs before manufacture.
  • Follow departmental processes to ensure all designs and decisions are accurately documented.
  • Resolve design issues for new and existing product designs.
  • Identify, evaluate & introduce new technologies or materials where appropriate.
  • Use Solidworks part & assembly modelling tools to create new designs and document with 2D Drafting.
  • Update product documentation through the Design Change Order process and using a Product Lifecycle Management system.
  • Checking your own work as well as other team member’s drawings and documentation for errors.
  • To multi-task in a demanding and evolving environment.
  • Organise and maintain existing engineering records.
  • Construct prototypes and confirm designs with project team.
  • Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes.
  • Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards.
  • Work closely with our Labs team to ensure that our Products are robustly tested against all Regulations and expected Environmental conditions.

Qualifications

  • Completed 2 years of study and courses in relevant engineering subjects.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for coding.
  • Great communication skills, flexible attitude and a passion for innovation.
  • Good organisation skills and be comfortable working with some degree of uncertainty.
