Job Title: Service Mechanic


Location: Outskirts of Needham Market, Suffolk


Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)


Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:30 (40 hours per week)


Compass Point Recruitment, on behalf of a small family‑run business, is seeking an experienced Service Mechanic to join their team.


This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a unique and varied environment, operating a large and diverse fleet ranging from motorcycles, cars, and vans through to HGVs, trailers, and generators. The workshop is home to highly skilled personnel specialising in mechanical stunt effects, fabrication, vehicle design, and manufacture.


As an experienced mechanic, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a diverse fleet to ensure all vehicles and equipment remain fully operational and roadworthy at all times.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance across a varied fleet of vehicles, trailers, and equipment
  • Carry out diagnostics, repairs, and replacement of parts
  • Order parts as required
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records
  • Assist with custom repairs (light fabrication experience advantageous but not essential)
  • Plan and manage maintenance schedules alongside the Transport Manager
  • Participate in occasional weekend work and out‑of‑hours call‑outs (paid at overtime rate – non‑compulsory)
  • Occasionally assist with custom vehicle builds and light fabrication projects

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills
  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing vehicles
  • Good understanding of MOT requirements and vehicle preparation standards
  • Ability to work independently with strong time‑management skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience with HGVs or American vehicle platforms (beneficial but not essential)
  • Own tool set required (specialist tools provided)
  • Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)
