At Black & White Engineering, we are shaping the future of high‑performance mechanical design for the digital economy. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer based in Manchester, you will take a leading technical role in delivering complex and innovative data centre and mission‑critical projects across the UK and Europe. This position offers the opportunity to influence design strategy, guide project teams, and work closely with major clients across the industry.

In this role, you will lead the mechanical design process from early concept stages through detailed design, construction support, and final commissioning. Your work will involve HVAC solutions, chilled water systems, CRAC and CRAH technologies, ventilation strategies, and fire protection design, all tailored to the performance demands of hyperscale and colocation facilities. You will ensure full compliance with Uptime Institute Tier standards, ASHRAE guidelines, and UK and European regulations, with a focus on delivering efficiency, resilience, and best‑in‑class engineering quality.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will act as a key technical leader within the Manchester office. You will provide direction on large and complex projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, engage directly with clients, and mentor engineers at various levels. Your ability to simplify complex engineering challenges and inspire confidence in both clients and colleagues will be essential to successful delivery.

Your work will be supported by a collaborative Manchester team and our global design centre, offering access to world‑class technical expertise, digital modelling capabilities, and a strong culture of knowledge sharing. We support continuous professional development through CPD programmes, technical workshops, and structured support toward chartership for those still completing their accreditation. For Principal‑level engineers demonstrating leadership capability, we offer a clear progression pathway toward Associate Director.

We are looking for someone with strong mechanical building services experience, ideally with exposure to mission‑critical or large‑scale technical projects. You should be proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, IES VE, and CFD tools, with a solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and energy modelling. Chartered status or significant progress toward it is highly desirable.

At Black & White, your expertise will be valued, your influence will shape key projects, and your career will continue to accelerate. Join us in Manchester and help deliver the next generation of high‑performance data centres across the UK and Europe.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
