Overview

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice. You will be a key member, delivering transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure and working on landmark engineering projects both domestically and internationally. We offer hybrid working, with 3 days per week office/site based. This position is based in one of our London, Epsom, Peterborough or Cambridge offices.


Responsibilities

  • Produce and review technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work within defined scope.
  • Provide technical input into project design deliverables for mechanical aspects of complex, multi‑disciplinary projects, and support the project management team to manage time and budgets to key milestones.
  • Coordinate or manage a mechanical engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in the design and integration of mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, blowers, screens, chemical dosing systems) and understand current UK design standards, legislation, and industry practices.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of current design codes and standards, and best practices, including CDM and DSEAR considerations.
  • Work independently with minimal technical guidance and use applicable analytical software and related tools.
  • Experience in the Water market is preferable.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse, multi‑disciplinary teams and convey technical concepts clearly.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field); Chartered status is desirable.
  • Proven experience in leading design delivery for mechanical systems within infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK design standards, relevant legislation (including CDM and DSEAR), and industry practices.
  • Experience with design integration of mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, and chemical dosing systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong communication skills.
  • Experience in water sector projects or water market is advantageous.
