Expleo is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer (Weights Engineering) to support one of our premium automotive clients on a 12‑month contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of next‑generation vehicle programmes within a world‑class engineering environment.

Contract: 12‑month contract


About the Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the On‑Cycle Weights Engineering team, you will own and drive the vehicle mass attribute throughout the programme lifecycle. Working with cross‑functional teams, you will ensure weight targets are understood, balanced, and achieved, while maintaining full transparency at all programme gateways.


This role is ideal for an engineer with strong analytical capability, excellent data management skills, and a passion for delivering technically robust, compliant, and competitive vehicles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead coordination of vehicle weight data across functional owners.
  • Own programme‑level weight targets, including target setting, balancing, and reporting.
  • Use control models to determine mass and loads for all buildable derivatives.
  • Lead resolution of mass‑related issues, including loads, distribution, and target gaps.
  • Calculate vehicle mass properties using geometry and first‑principles methods.
  • Coordinate creation and maintenance of Vehicle Mass Property Models.
  • Lead creation, validation, and issue resolution of Vehicle Loading Charts.
  • Verify weight for prototype and production vehicles.
  • Manage certification of vehicle masses with regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee in‑market weight monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Customer-focused mindset geared towards understanding and delivering the needs of internal customers and end users.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Weight and Mass Properties and it's interaction with other vehicle Attributes.
  • Able to prioritise own time and work load.
  • Aptitude for engineering, testing and evaluation. Able to work precisely and to specified procedures.
  • Prepared to work autonomously at all sites, establishing and maintaining relations with local staff.

Desirable:

  • Engineering, Maths or Physics degree qualified
  • Whole vehicle engineering knowledge & cross functional experience
  • Knowledge of technologies associated with the automotive sector, especially relating to weight reduction
  • Microsoft package elements Project, Power Point and Excel


Education:

Engineering, Maths or Physics degree qualified preferred
