Job Description

Do you want to join our Mechanical team, working alongside some of the United Kingdom's most talented Engineers and Scientists? As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be required to develop novel approaches to overcome demanding challenges set by our customers, building on decades of domain‑leading heritage. You will deliver compliant Mechanical Engineering solutions through the entire engineering life‑cycle, ensuring they consider all requirements including product quality, safety, reliability, etc. Mechanical engineering detailed design; including numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc. You will support, and get support from, senior peers in the delivery of mechanical solutions and techniques that enable the team to advance the next generation of product.


Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Producing Manufacturing Data Packs in line with BS8888, including appropriate use of GD&T.
  • Support to successful resolution of technical investigations.
  • Contributing to reviews of mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
  • Hands‑on involvement in practical implementation of development builds and Design of Experiments.
  • Providing support during the introduction of new product into the Development/Production lifecycle phase.
  • Actively contribute to Work Package delivery elements to achieve desired Quality, Schedule and Cost.
  • Members of the Mechanical Engineering Team are encouraged to continually develop their technical skills within structural, thermal and model‑driven engineering aspects of Mechanical Engineering.

What You’ll Bring

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), or experience in the field of Defence (Airborne, naval, etc) environments. Mechanical engineering for Electronic and/or EO products.
  • Design of systems for ‘harsh environments’ i.e. Shock, Vibration, Temperature, EMC, Salt fog, etc.
  • Mechanical design and development using 3D CAD tools (ideally PTC Creo).
  • Problem solving using a structured, logical approach to investigate issues and problems in an effective manner.
  • Understanding Structural and Thermal Analyses data, to inform design decisions.
  • Experienced in various aspects of Design for Excellence (DfX), including Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Integration and Sustainability.

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC).
