Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Hertfordshire, Hybrid

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time, Part Time

Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 depending on experience


Our client is looking for experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to join their Mechanical Engineering team. Multiple opportunities are available across the entire product life cycle, from early concept development through detailed design, qualification, production and in-service support.

In this role, you will lead the development of mechanical solutions for complex defence systems, working with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality and supply chain.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who want to take technical ownership, influence design decisions, and work on highly complex products within a leading defence organisation.


The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead mechanical design work packages on complex defence systems
  • Develop innovative mechanical solutions from concept through to production and support
  • Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, cost and schedule requirements
  • Drive design maturity and design assurance activities
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Act as a key technical interface with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Support design verification, qualification and testing activities
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers


What We’re Looking For

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience leading mechanical design activities within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working across the full product life cycle
  • Knowledge of design verification, proving and qualification processes
  • Hands-on experience with engineering design methodologies such as DFMEA / DFA / DFM
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions
  • Experience working with suppliers and external partners
  • Ability to manage priorities, assess risk and support junior engineers
  • Understanding of structural, thermal or dynamic analysis (desirable)
  • Experience with 3D CAD / CAE tools (training provided on internal systems)
