Job Description

The Client: Multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a 150-year history specializing in mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) engineering. They have grown into one of the most respected firms in the building services engineering sector, known for their focus on sustainable, innovative, and performance-driven design. Their 1200 employees provide a wide range of engineering and consultancy services, including acoustics, air quality, building services (MEP), fire, lighting, security, and sustainability from a network of 11 national offices. They are frequently recognized in industry awards for sustainability and innovation in low energy buildings and net zero strategies.

The Role: The Cambridge office was established to provide a local presence on projects. They have an abundance of expertise and knowledge that is regularly called upon throughout the firm, mainly within complex engineering sectors such as Science and Research, and Healthcare. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and delivering designs for a range of project types and sizes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and support staff delivering a high-quality service for clients, ensuring that repeat and new business opportunities are developed, and profitability is achieved. In this key and varied role, you can expect to:

  • Provide detailed, coordinated, and cost-efficient mechanical design advice to our varied client list.
  • Tailor a comprehensive service of specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Design mechanical engineering systems at the highest level using the latest software design packages.
  • Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in your work either alone or as part of a team.
  • Explore new ways of working, including innovation and research, to keep abreast of competitors.
  • Produce calculations, reports, and specifications with good written communication skills.
  • Attend design team meetings, client meetings, and site inspections.
  • Work with minimal supervision and manage your own projects, reacting efficiently to multiple tasks and tight deadlines.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Proven experience working as a Mechanical Engineer or a closely related role, with a track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Understanding of all mechanical services, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment, with excellent communication skills with internal and external clients, and a team-based approach.
  • Proficiency with relevant software/tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Self-awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.
  • Familiarity with relevant British Standards.
  • Consultancy experience.
