Express Recruitment are delighted to be working with a leading manufacturer who work in a range of sectors. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at their office located just on the outskirts of Derby.

Their successful candidate will create drawings and models of packaging machinery using 3D SolidWorks and AutoCAD. They will liaise with clients and attend client sites to ensure their needs are met all whilst ensuring company standards are always adhered to.

Their ideal candidate will have previous experience designing packaging, automation, and/or food machinery. They will have SolidWorks CAD experience and a solid understanding of manufacturing engineering practices.

They are offering a competitive salary of up to c£56,000 per annum D.O.E alongside a generous benefits packaged including a pension scheme, 25 days holiday + stats, and death in service pay (x2 salary).

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Carry out BOM calculations from several sources to calculate the standard costs of a manufactured items
  • Liaise with customers professionally daily to ensure standards are met
  • Develop, design and carry out continuous improvement of products
  • Support and mentor Junior Mechanical Design Engineers
  • Review and approve designs created by Junior Engineers
  • Create drawings and models using 3D SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Attend site and customer facilities for project discussions when required
  • Use surveying equipment to carry out site measures on project sites

Skills and Experience


  • Previous experience of designing automated packaging/label machinery highly desirable (similar machine tool design considered)
  • 3D SolidWorks and CAD/AutoCAD experience essential
  • Understanding of manufacturing engineering practices and workshop machinery
  • Competent computer skills (Microsoft, Outlook and FileMaker)
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to support business needs
