Our inspiring and caring environment forms a global community that celebrates diversity and individuality. We encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone, offering resources and flexibility to support your professional and personal growth, while valuing your unique contributions.

At Siemens Healthineers Magnet Technology in Oxfordshire, we are a world leader in the design and manufacture of superconducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnets for medical applications. We take enormous pride in developing truly innovative technology and continue to push boundaries to help make MRI systems more accessible worldwide.

The opportunity

Apply now for the position of R&D Mechanical Engineering Intern and gain hands‑on experience within one of the world’s leading healthcare companies. Our Magnet Technology site in Eynsham is at the forefront of manufacturing high‑tech medical imaging equipment used by healthcare professionals across the globe. This 12‑month internship offers the opportunity to support and develop the design and manufacture of our superconducting magnets, while making a meaningful contribution to real engineering projects. You will join a collaborative R&D environment and gain exposure to both design and manufacturing activities. You will initially be based mainly at our Eynsham site in 2026, with the opportunity to spend time at our brand‑new Bicester facility as it comes online in 2027. This will give you unique insight into how a large‑scale manufacturing business manages the transition of operations while maintaining day‑to‑day delivery. Alongside your day‑to‑day role, you will take part in our 12‑month Intern Development Programme, designed to build key skills such as communication, teamwork, and commercial awareness.

Your role

As an R&D Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting various aspects of superconducting magnet design and manufacture.

  • Supporting the design and development of mechanical aspects of superconducting magnets across disciplines such as structural, dynamic, thermodynamic, and materials engineering.
  • Working independently on projects to help improve existing designs, processes, or methodologies.
  • Carrying out design work, simulations, and experimental activities, analysing results and presenting conclusions in written reports and team meetings.
  • Supporting production activities on the factory floor and working closely with manufacturing and customer support teams, gaining valuable exposure to how designs are realised in practice.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across R&D and operations.

About You

We’re looking for an undergraduate student currently studying towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) and seeking a 12‑month industrial placement or sandwich year as part of your degree programme.

  • A strong interest in mechanical engineering and the physical and technical world around you.
  • Good problem‑solving and analytical skills, with an aptitude for learning new concepts.
  • An interest in seeing designs through to manufacture, with a practical and collaborative approach to problem‑solving.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

No prior industry experience is required — we’ll support you as you learn.

You must also have eligibility to work in the UK for the duration of the internship (Summer 2026 – Summer 2027).

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
