AMP8 is an exciting time for the water industry and for Stantec's role within it. With record levels of investment and our ongoing growth plans in the region, there is plenty of opportunity within our engineering teams. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the South West and Midlands to support our important work for United Utilities. This role can be based at a number of locations, including Bristol, Cardiff or Exeter in the South West or Birmingham, Derby or Redditch in the Midlands.


You will be involved in the full project life cycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support, including site surveys and investigations. This will mean leading mechanical design for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, including water/wastewater treatment plants, conveyance systems, pumping stations and more. You will work closely with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to deliver positive project outcomes. You will also be involved in the mentorship and guidance of more junior engineers within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects within the water sector (e.g., water and wastewater treatment plants, conveyance systems, pumping stations).
  • Engage with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors and planners to deliver positive project outcomes.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, option development, detailed design, construction support, site surveys and investigations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the team.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject; Chartered status or working toward is preferred.
  • Experience in detailed design within the water industry; background with delivery contractors is beneficial.
  • Willingness to take on line management responsibilities for the right candidate.
