Principal Mechanical Engineer (MEP)
The Opportunity

Due to continued growth, a Built Environment Consultancy is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its MEP team in Manchester. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of building services across a range of sectors including residential, education, healthcare, commercial and regeneration projects.


The Role

You will be responsible for the mechanical and public health design of building services installations, working closely with architects, engineers and project teams to deliver high-quality solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leading or supporting mechanical design across projects
  • Producing design calculations, reports, drawings and specifications
  • Using CAD/BIM tools (ideally Revit) and mechanical design software such as Hevacomp or IES
  • Ensuring designs meet industry regulations, sustainability targets and health & safety requirements
  • Engaging with clients and project stakeholders
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate

Key Qualifications

  • Experience within consultancy or contractor environments
  • Ideally experience across residential and education projects
  • Strong technical knowledge of building services systems
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is welcomed but not essential.

The team has a collaborative office culture and are in the office 4-5 days per week. Flexibility is supported where needed, particularly around childcare or personal commitments.
