Principal Engineer

If you're the kind of engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, guiding others, and influencing how projects are delivered, this is the role that puts you in the driving seat. Not just another technical post — this is your chance to lead, shape and elevate engineering standards across meaningful, high-impact programmes.

You'll join a team that values expertise, curiosity and clear thinking. A place where experienced engineers step up, take ownership and push for smarter, safer, better ways of working. If you want room to grow, real autonomy and the platform to make a difference, you'll feel at home here.

What makes this worth your time?

  • Lead the engineering direction on projects that genuinely matter
  • Be the go‑to specialist - the one people trust for clarity, quality and technical judgement
  • Work with multi‑discipline teams and influence how solutions are shaped from day one
  • Coaching and developing talent - play a key role in growing capability, not just delivering tasks
  • Flexibility and ownership - manage your own workload and make decisions without micromanagement
  • Progression that reflects your contribution, not time served
  • A culture that backs professionals - respect, openness and a real focus on engineering best practice

What you'll be doing

This role is about leading through expertise. You'll take on the most challenging engineering problems, guide teams through technical decisions, and ensure outputs are robust, safe and aligned with the agreed scope. You'll build strong relationships with stakeholders, translate expectations into clear deliverables, and act as the steady technical voice others rely on.

You'll also shape how engineering is done here: promoting best practice, championing safety, developing people, and sharing insight across projects.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong Mechancial engineering background, ideally with piping experience - this will give you a real edge
  • Experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry - essential for the complexity and safety standards you'll be working within
  • Ability to obtain the required level of nuclear security clearance
  • Confidence leading teams and tackling complex technical issues
  • Clear communication, strong judgement and a collaborative, professional approach

The NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life. Supporting contracting companies with energy transition plans and working with our clients to create a cleaner, greener future.

We welcome applications from every walk of life and are committed to diversity within the industries we support, as a certified Inclusive Recruiter and Armed Forces friendly employer. You can ensure you stay safe when job searching online by visiting the JobsAware website.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
