Salary: £32,000 - £37,000 depending on experience

The Role

Reporting to the Area Engineering Manager, the Planning Engineer will provide leadership and support to the Planning Department within operations providing engineering expertise as well as ensuring work can be produced at optimised levels to manage both the current and future demands of the Workshops internal and external customers.


We will be looking to the Planning Engineer to manage and control a portfolio of work orders ensuring, cost effectiveness and quality by the efficient planning, cost estimation, procurement and coordination of spares and labour resources.


As the Planning Engineer you will be responsible for the processing and managing of work orders as directed and controlled by the Planning Process and the Quality Management System. The incumbent of the role will be responsible for the creation and project planning of lead‑times to manufacture custom made goods, in tandem with the refurbishment of plant assemblies, supporting continuous improvement whilst consulting with the Scheduler Controller regarding the coordination of activities and the Operations Teams regarding the flow of work through the workshops.


You will be key in ensuring each section within the Workshops works in partnership and that the Planning Engineer’s portfolio is curated to provide maximum efficiency.


The Candidate

We are looking for effective Mechanical Engineers with experience in fast paced heavy industrial manufacturing activities.


You must have a strong awareness of engineering practices and qualified to a minimum HNC ideally obtained through a recognised craft apprenticeship or modern apprenticeship scheme.


We are looking for individuals with demonstrable background of a mechanical engineering discipline and must have fabrication/welding knowledge, an understanding of continuous improvement processes, process planning, procurement of spares, materials, and services along with dealing with contractors.


Successful applicants will be expected to work towards obtaining IOSH qualification and NVQ Level 4.


Applicants will possess the following:



  • Must have experience in SAP and Microsoft Package’s including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have Mechanical knowledge and experience.
  • Considerable Workshop process and Operational knowledge and experience.
  • The ability to create a high level of trust with employees at all levels.
  • Must be committed to achieving safety, environmental, and service targets.
  • You must have a sound knowledge of health and safety requirements, such as CDM regulations, Permit systems, as well as QA Documentation.
