Responsibilities


  • Lead Operational Delivery: Ensure maintenance workloads are delivered on time and within budget, while meeting safety, customer service, and regulatory standards (NGN & OFGEM). Review technical test results and resolve faults promptly.
  • Manage and Develop Teams: Oversee a large, geographically dispersed engineering team. Drive competency development, mentor apprentices, and lead monthly performance and safety meetings. Provide managerial support and resolve technical queries.
  • Plan and Monitor Performance: Support monthly workload planning, own delivery outcomes, and report on KPIs. Proactively manage team performance, including absence, productivity, and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Engage with Customers: Respond to enquiries and complaints in line with NGN standards, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • Commit to Continuous Improvement: Support the implementation of new processes, conduct safety audits, and pursue personal development to achieve SAP/AE status under EL6 & SCO.


What we are looking for


  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Pressure Control (or equivalent)
  • EUSR Gas Passport and SCO 1, 2, 4, 5
  • Strong knowledge of TD13, Maint 2, and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (2000)
  • Field-based maintenance experience, including high-pressure assets
  • Proven leadership and experience with Permits and SSoW
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manage minor projects
  • Confident using MS Office and working to tight deadlines

  • HNC
  • AE Status under SCO
  • Site management experience (remote teams)
  • IOSH/SMSTS
  • A1 Assessor

About Northern Gas Networks

We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire. That’s around 6.7 million individual customers. We don’t generate or sell the gas, but we transport it to homes and businesses in our region through a vast network of underground pipes. In fact, we own and maintain more than 37,000km of gas pipes - enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney and back again. We cover large cities like Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, York, Hull, and Bradford, and our work extends to rural areas like North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
