Waukesha Magnetic Bearings are now hiring for a Mechanical Systems Engineer. In this role you will be undertaking the design and analysis of Active Magnetic Bearings and auxilary systems, creating the technical content for sales proposals and supporting the commissioning of new and existing magnetic bearing systems.


You will serve as the technical project lead, interacting with customers and supporting commissioning engineers in the tuning of new systems and the troubleshooting of existing systems.


This role will be part of the team located in Worthing, West Sussex, BN14 9LA and is available on a Hybrid or Remote working basis if you can travel to the site and back within the day, as and when required.

To meet this requirement, applicants must normally be British citizens (or certain qualifying Commonwealth/Irish nationals) who have been resident in the UK for the past five years. What You Will Bring
  • Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience:A minimum of 5 years of full‑time relevant work experience involving the design and analysis of turbomachinery or rotating equipment, ideally with magnetic bearing systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of mechanical design, GD&T standards, stress analysis, heat transfer analysis, materials science and rotordynamics.
  • Further knowledge: Electromagnetics, electronics, instrumentation, signal processing, and control systems would also be beneficial.

  • Software:Established working knowledge of 3D CAD software, ideallySolidWorks, andFEA software.
  • Drawing Review:Experience with reviewing detailed mechanical drawings and specifying dimensioning and tolerancing for mechanical drawings

What You Will Do
  • Completerotordynamic and control system analysison magnetic bearing systems.
  • Support mechanical and electromagnetic design processes, includingstress analysis, heat transfer analysis, and electromagnetic analysis.
  • Use knowledge ofSolidWorksandSW Simulatorto performFEA analysisand support checking of drawings.
  • Provide interface between rotordynamic and control system design and analyses and the implementation into actual controllers and tuning/commissioning activities.
  • Provide effective technical interface with our external and internal customers.
  • Provide interface to internal manufacturing department for satisfactory implementation of bearing system designs.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally in support of projects (travel up to 10%), as required.
