Role Overview

The Mechanical Project Manager will oversee the construction design, delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems for data center construction projects across Europe. This role requires the management of all aspects of mechanical system delivery, including HVAC systems, cooling infrastructure, fire suppression systems, and fuel delivery systems.


Operating as part of CloudHQ’s Construction Management team, the Mechanical Project Manager ensures the successful execution of mechanical scopes while maintaining safety, schedule adherence, and compliance with industry regulations. The candidate will work closely with contractors, vendors, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of reliable and scalable mechanical systems for mission-critical facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight for Mechanical Systems

    • Plan and manage the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
    • Ensure all mechanical systems meet CloudHQ’s technical standards, tenant-specific requirements, and compliance with local codes and sustainability regulations.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve construction challenges during installation, ensuring mechanical scopes stay aligned with project schedules.
    • Review construction drawings and specifications for compliance and constructability, ensuring smooth execution during the installation phase.




  • Mechanical Project Execution

    • Oversee and monitor project-specific plans for mechanical scopes, including detailed timelines, resource allocation, and cost management.
    • Coordinate with general contractors to ensure mechanical equipment procurement, delivery, and installation align with construction milestones.
    • Conduct on-site inspections, monitoring progress and ensuring work adheres to designs, contracts, and applicable building codes.
    • Facilitate regular project meetings, ensuring risks are identified early and mitigation plans are implemented effectively.
    • Collaborate closely with commissioning teams to ensure mechanical systems are construction ready.




  • Contract and Vendor Management

    • Manage relationships with general contractors, vendors, and suppliers for mechanical systems, ensuring proper execution and adherence to contracts.
    • Ensure mechanical equipment is delivered on time and meets quality standards specified in the project scope.
    • Monitor and evaluate contractor performance, addressing issues to ensure successful project delivery.




  • Compliance & Safety Oversight

    • Ensure all electrical construction activities fully comply with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and CloudHQ standards for safety and performance.
    • Enforce strict adherence to contractor safety protocols during both installation and commissioning phases.
    • Promote a culture of safety on site and work closely with HSE teams to implement and monitor safety practices.
    • Ensure sustainability practices and energy-efficient design principles are integrated into electrical infrastructure.




  • Technical Leadership & Value Engineering

    • Provide subject matter expertise in mechanical construction design and installation phases.
    • Oversee factory witness testing and on-site commissioning of critical systems.
    • Lead value engineering efforts to optimize mechanical system costs while maintaining energy efficiency, performance, and reliability.
    • Safety & Regulatory Compliance
    • Enforce strict compliance with building codes, health and safety standards, and CloudHQ’s corporate protocols for mechanical construction.
    • Monitor site activities to ensure contractors and subcontractors adhere to environmental sustainability practices and follow fire impairment safety processes.
    • Champion a culture of safety across all construction teams, reducing risks during mechanical system installation and testing.




  • Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

    • Provide regular progress updates to senior management and stakeholders, detailing risks, opportunities, and milestones for mechanical system installations during construction phases.
    • Maintain comprehensive records for project schedules, compliance activities, and metrics related to mechanical scopes.
    • Deliver post-project reports, summarizing lessons learned, remaining actions, and recommendations for continuous improvement.


Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise in Mechanical Systems

  • Extensive knowledge of design, installation, and testing of mechanical systems for data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Familiarity with mechanical redundancy principles and energy efficiency strategies for scalable infrastructure.
  • Construction Management Knowledge
  • Proven experience managing large-scale mechanical scopes during the construction phase of data centers or similar industrial facilities.
  • Skilled in monitoring contractor performance, resolving construction conflicts, and driving successful project outcomes on-site.

Compliance & Design Knowledge

  • Familiarity with building codes, permitting systems, and sustainability regulations governing mechanical systems for critical infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering tools.

Project Management Skills

  • Ability to independently manage complex construction schedules and risk strategies while delivering mechanical systems on time and within scope.
  • Proficiency in project tracking tools.
  • Strong ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, including contractors, suppliers, and CloudHQ stakeholders, during construction execution.
  • Effective communicator capable of providing actionable insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive problem solver, capable of addressing challenges during critical project milestones while ensuring smooth delivery of systems.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Services Engineering.


Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction management roles focusing on mechanical systems for data centers, industrial facilities, or other large-scale projects.Experience in commissioning processes for mechanical systems in high-tech or mission-critical environments.
