Overview

You will be working for a leading engineering delivery partner supporting a nationally significant nuclear new‑build programme. This role is ideal for a Mechanical Project Engineer with experience in building services, mechanical installation, or highly regulated environments such as nuclear, defence, data centres, rail, or complex industrial projects.

You will support the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of mechanical systems and packages across a complex, multi‑discipline construction environment.

Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery, Planning & Technical Execution: you will manage and deliver mechanical work packages safely, on time and within budget, developing and implementing project execution and delivery plans while monitoring programme performance, progress against milestones and reporting to key stakeholders. Review drawings, designs and specifications for compliance; prepare operational project programmes; plan workloads; allocate tasks to junior engineers and site teams; and coordinate all mechanical activity alongside electrical, M&E and wider construction partners. Prepare and maintain procurement schedules, manage material requirements and liaise with suppliers to ensure accurate quotations, timely deliveries and efficient integration into the project. Subcontractor engagement, reviews and performance coordination also sit within your remit.
  • Quality, Safety, Compliance & Risk Management: ensure all mechanical activities comply with relevant standards, procedures and regulations, support the QA team with quality records, audits and assurance. Duties include inspecting installations, monitoring workmanship, contributing to zero‑defect processes, reviewing safety performance, and conducting or supporting site H&S inspections. Ensure all required safety documentation—including RAMS, toolbox talks, and plant and equipment checks—is complete and current. Identifying and escalating risks, resolving technical or delivery issues and maintaining a proactive safety culture are core expectations.
  • Commercial, Administrative & Stakeholder Engagement: monitor commercial performance, supporting project accounts, variations and final accounts, assist with subcontract orders and major material procurement, and maintain structured project documentation and administrative records in line with company procedures. Represent the project at meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and partners, ensuring high standards of customer service while helping develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships throughout project delivery.
  • People, Behaviour & Team Integration: communicate effectively with colleagues, monitor performance, uphold quality expectations and demonstrate key behavioural values including teamwork, respect, clarity, positivity and a one‑team mindset. Collaborative working with multidisciplinary teams is essential to ensure smooth delivery across all engineering interfaces.
Experience & Qualifications
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or similar discipline.
  • Experience delivering mechanical projects in regulated or complex environments.
  • Understanding of nuclear / high‑hazard safety culture (experience preferred, not essential).
  • Ability to coordinate multi‑discipline engineering teams and contractors.
  • (Desirable / Not Essential): Working toward or holding APM PMQ or similar PM qualification.
  • Experience with quality assurance, safety‑critical systems, or unionised sites.
Package & Benefits
  • Salary ~£70,000 including car allowance.
  • Lodge allowance ~£1,500 per month tax‑free for travelling workers.
  • Option for centrally booked travel/accommodation + ~£40 daily expenses allowance.
  • 26 days holiday + Bank Holidays.
  • 9‑day fortnight working pattern.
  • Comprehensive benefits package; a rewards platform, employee assistance programme, private healthcare, eye care support and a wide range of retail, technology and travel discounts. Additional benefits include cycle to work, holiday trading, refer‑a‑friend incentives, paid professional fees, enhanced family leave, a pension plan, sabbatical options, extra holiday purchase, salary finance support, childcare vouchers, gym and health‑related perks, virtual GP access, discounted mobile tariffs, car‑related savings including salary sacrifice, hotel and short‑break deals, family work‑experience opportunities, a discretionary bonus and flexible or agile working.
Work Pattern
  • 9‑day fortnight as standard.
  • Some periods based at regional office locations; later phases on the main construction site.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
