Mechanical Operator
Circa £28,000 to £35,000 dependent on skills and experience
Permanent, 37 hours per week
Location - 2x positions in Carlisle / Penrith / Livingstone

In this exciting role as a Mechanical Operator, you are responsible for the successful completion of routine, reactive and remedial work on sites, working in a safe efficient manner at all times.


Working closely with your Manager and Delivery Technician, you'll identify, develop and implement optimisation opportunities throughout our operational activities, driving down operational costs.


This role will participate in our 'out of hours' emergency standby rota, attending call outs in a timely manner and proactively carrying out repairs ensuring compliance is maintained.


Key responsibilities

  • Carry out daily routine maintenance work on various treatment facilities, including general cleaning, sampling and maintenance tasks
  • Carry out repairs and replacement work on a wide range of pumping and treatment plant assets
  • Carry out fault finding on all mechanical assets, demonstrating a firm 'first time fix' attitude
  • Carry out confined space entries, repairs of plant, and cleaning of tanks as required
  • Assist the Regional Operations Manager in planning daily routes
  • Maintain an excellent standard of Health and Safety, ensuring all issues, concerns, and incidents are reported correctly, in a timely manner
  • Adhere to all Alpheus/Client's procedures, policies, work instructions and requirements
  • Ensure you are in possession of, and wearing appropriate PPE and safety equipment when required and reporting any deficiencies immediately
  • Responsible for site safety and site tidiness to the highest standards

What does it take to be successful?

  • Experience of a broad range of water and wastewater treatment technologies
  • Experience in water and wastewater pumping systems
  • Excellent Health and Safety knowledge and experience
  • Good knowledge of key aspects of environmental legislations
  • Experience in routine maintenance, sampling and mechanical hands of work
  • Excellent communication skills with a professional manner when dealing with clients
  • Excellent technical/operational and process knowledge
  • Self-motivated with a good eye for detail
  • Excellent organisational skills
