Permanent role - 37 hours core per week

Salary - up to £42,056 (depending on experience) + overtime + standby (OTE of £6000 in overtime, standby and callout payments)

Location: Consett, County Durham (Mobile Worker with van and fuel card provided)

About the Role

Are you passionate about joining a team dedicated to making a positive direct impact on the environment and the communities we serve? We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to work in the Consett Maintenance team covering the County Durham and Northumberland area and beyond. No two days are the same here, and you will be presented with unique opportunities to use your expertise in both fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance to improve plant availability. At Northumbrian Water Group we have a diverse range of equipment allowing us to offer a unique prospect to specialise in areas such as condition‑based maintenance, generators and chemical dosing.

You will be a fully mobile worker and will be provided with a van, starting and finishing your working day from home. All tools and equipment are provided supporting Technicians to minimise plant down time. The role requires participation in an out of hour’s standby rota. We will ensure that you have the relevant training and experience required to do this. Additional payments are made for standby, callouts and any additional hours worked.

At Northumbrian Water Group we recognise potential, offering a tailored training package, development, and growth opportunities for people to progress internally. With our committed leadership and close‑knit teams, you will never be short of support in your role.

What We’re Looking For

You will be a time‑served Mechanical Technician educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. You will have a maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work, and you will manage your time efficiently with minimal supervision. You will be experienced in reading and finding faults from Mechanical drawings, identify the source and replacing faulty components.

We are looking for candidates with a can‑do attitude, willingness to learn and explore new ways of working. A hands‑on practical approach and keen eye for identifying the root cause whilst investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role.

You’ll have excellent communication skills and be a team player. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture. A full, manual UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What We Offer

You will have the potential to receive payment for up to 4 Technical Modules (£1500 per module per year) with expectation that each Technician will achieve a minimum of 2 modules within 3 years.

We offer generous holiday arrangements, with annual leave entitlement starting on 23 days + Bank Holidays – rising to 28 days with length of service. We also offer additional 2 × ½ days special leave each year and the option to buy and sell leave.

Rewards & Benefits include up to 11% company pension scheme contribution, access to 24/7 digital GP, wellbeing support and annual health screenings.

We offer a Cycle to Work Scheme, a Discount Portal, and paid time off to take part in community events. All tools, PPE and company uniform are supplied.

This role is defined as a Safety and Security Critical role and prospective employees are required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date. Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre‑employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre‑employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.

Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.

New Edge Computing Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Shaping Edge Innovation

Edge computing is transforming how data is processed by bringing compute power closer to the source of generation. With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), real‑time analytics, autonomous systems, and latency‑sensitive applications, edge computing has moved from a niche discipline to a core component of digital infrastructure. In 2026, organisations that specialise in or heavily invest in edge computing are expanding their teams to build distributed systems, real‑time analytics platforms, and edge‑optimised AI. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.EdgeComputingJobs.co.uk , understanding which employers are growing, winning contracts, or securing investment is essential. This article highlights the new and high‑growth edge computing employers to watch in 2026, including UK startups, international innovators with a UK presence, and established companies shifting strategy toward edge.

How Many Edge Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an Edge Computing Job?

If you’re trying to start or grow a career in edge computing, it can feel like you’re navigating a maze of tools, frameworks and platforms — Kubernetes, Docker, IoT frameworks, AWS Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, OpenShift, TinyML toolkits, networking orchestration, real-time streaming frameworks, and on it goes. Scroll job boards and community forums and it’s easy to conclude that unless you master every buzzword imaginable, you’ll never get a job. Here’s the honest truth most edge computing hiring managers won’t necessarily say out loud: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every edge computing tool — they hire you because you can solve real system problems using the tools you know. Tools matter, yes — but only when they support clear outcomes: reliable systems, performance at scale, secure edge deployments and real business value. So how many edge computing tools do you actually need to know to secure a job? For most edge computing roles, the answer is fewer than you think — and a lot clearer when sorted by fundamentals and roles. This guide shows you what matters, what doesn’t, and how to focus your time wisely so you come across as capable, confident and employable.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Edge Computing Job Applications (UK Guide)

In today’s fast-evolving tech landscape, edge computing is one of the most sought-after fields — blending distributed systems, embedded systems, networking, cloud, IoT, data and real-time processing. But that also means hiring managers are highly selective. They scan applications fast and look for signals of relevance, impact, technical depth and real-world delivery long before they read every line. This guide demystifies what hiring managers in edge computing look for first in your application — so you can tailor your CV, portfolio and cover letter to jump out of the stack. Whether you’re targeting edge systems roles, embedded IoT edge jobs, edge-native data roles, edge platform engineering or edge-AI positions, this checklist will help you position your experience in a way hiring managers can trust immediately.
